ON my fender mustang II as I switch channels with my footswitch there' s a lag before the sound comes up

Possibly you are holding the switch down???... it MAY activate on the release of the switch. Try quick tap on switch.
I tried to find schematic to analyze this but could not find one.

    No it ain't that, i'm hitting the footswitch and the amp kinda "crossfades" the 2 presets... i guess it could be that i'm not using the fender fs. Thanx anyway!

    Yes, you need to use a COMPATIBLE foot switch. There are many that are not compatible and the electronic interface for the foot switches varies quite a bit. Many will not work at all while others may appear to work. Your switch may have a capcitor in it that is intended to keep out noise but is causing slow response when used with your amp.

You could buy a Lehle switch, or simply use one on each separately. If you are using a multieffect unit you could make a Y cable to take the output to both amps but that will not allow you to select the drive channel - you still need the Fender footswitch for that, one for each amp. Lehle is a German company and they make a lot of different footswitch combinations but you will pay for the convenience.


I recommend the Fender single button footswitch for this use - Type: Footswitch

  • It's about $35.00 each, compared to the Lehle which starts at $200. Just put the two side by side and make a metal bar to attach to the two switches - then you have a single bar to activate both drive channels at the same time. I recommend using aluminum bar stock with holes drilled into it for the switches, or find a C channel aluminum bar that will put the footswitch buttons in the channel. You can also make it one inch overhang past both switch bodies and then use bolts to keep the bar in place. If I was doing this I would mount the footswitches on a board and secure the bar to be on top of the footswitches, using coil springs to maintain the bar's alignment vertically at the end bolts.

    While playing through this amp I stepped on the channel changing footswitch and lost all sound from amp. all tubes and pilot light remained on but amp went silent. Disconnecting footswitch and cable f
    Plug the guitar on the "power amp in" jack near the "presence" knob.
    If you get sound, you have a problem on the preamp. If not, it´s probably on the power amp section.

    I have a Marshall mg100hdfx Head & Cab - The clean channel is on but when i hit the footswitch it is not changing to overdrive channel - please help
    Sounds like either your "front-panel" switches are not set for channel switching or the footswitch's mechanical "Channel" switch is defective. According to the OM the "Channel Select Switch" on the front becomes inactive with the footswitch plugged in.

    If disconnecting the footswitch causes this front-panel switch to operate properly then it has to be your mechanical switch in the footswitch. Repair of these footswitches are pretty simple provided you find a replacement and have soldering abilities.

    Everytime I play on my Fender Frontman 212R the amp switches betweeen the overdrive and clean channels. I can't even switch between the channels on my own. It does it itself. I need help fixing this...
    You don't say if you are using a footswitch or not... If you are, the switch, cables and connectors are suspect.

    If you are NOT using the controller, the switch contacts on the footswitch jack in the 212 are suspect as being intermittent contacts.

    If the contact is not making, the OD switch on the unit will NOT work either.

    These jacks, and their contacts are JUNK and often cause problems.

    Open the unit and increse the tension of the contact springs.

    My 94 blues deluxe switches channels by itself .happens occasionally.it will switch to the overdrive channel, then a few seconds later switch back to the clean channel.
    IF YOU ARE USING the footswitch, then likely problem is with cable and or the pug and jack.

    IF YOU ARE NOT using the footswitch the contact switch on the jack for the footswitch is PROBABLY intermitent contact. These jacks are POOR quality in the music equipment. If this is the case in yours, open the unit and tighten the spring contact.

    Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Footswitch
    Main thing to verify is that the particular footswitch and cable you have is specifically for that amp. If it is not the right one, that is your problem as there is very little compatibility among footswitches.
    Looking at the schematic, plugging in JUST the cable shifts operation as you observed. This uses a crazy circuit in which AC is applied on the cable and the footswitch has a diode each direction that causes the amp to shift between the states. when you plug a bare cable in, it disconnects the internal diodes and switches for control at the amp, hence the signals float.
    You should investigate the footswitch to make sure it is the right type with the diodes resistors and caps that is for the Fender Deluxe.

    Look at the circuitry of the switches on the schematic at C8. Your pedal should have similar circuitry. Assuming your cable is good, the problem would be in the pedal itself.

    My 100hdfx has a problem switching channels. Both overdrive channels work fine but the clean channel is none existant. If you switch it to the clean channel and turn it up all the way you can faintly here...
    have you tried the footswitch to change channels. also. my amp has to be in channel 2 position (with the button on the head) before i can use the footswitch. sometimes the input/footswitch jack wears out and you need to bend the internal tip/ring tabs of the jack to make better contact. also like on my fender amp, i had just a standard mono instrument cable going to my footswitch and it was acting wierd cause it needed a stereo instrument cable. one last thing on the grounding resistors on the pcb, they get hot and break the solder welds which messes with all sorts of stuff in amps. usually look like sugar cubes , cement resistor. 5watt usually under 1k ohm. check for bad solder welds on the pcb where the big resistors are and the switches/buttons and at the footswitch. there may be a bad ic or transistor for the channel swithing

    Fender Concert II preamp is faint and distorted on 2 channel
    It sounds like a job for a technician. There are high voltages in the chasis and the potential for a serious shock to the unwary. 

    That said, I can suggest several possibilities.

    First, make sure the controls aren't causing the problem. Contacts can build up dirt and oxides and block the signal. Try twiddling the controls and see if the problem comes and goes, or if you hear scratchy noises. If symptoms are found, buy a contact cleaner spray, take out the chasis after unplugging and letting it set for an hour, being very careful not to touch any exposed conductors inside. You'll see some holes in the control bodies; squirt cleaner for 2-5 seconds and work the controls.
    Also see if the problem happens without the footswitch, and try the channel switches several times - same problem, dirt and oxidation.

    Other possibilities - cathode bypass capacitors drying up, and it looks like the amp uses some opto-couplers at various stages.

    Well,its a real obscure amp.No company website from what I can find.

    As for the footswitch dist.pedal,you have a few options.Look on the back of the amp and see if there is A)an effects loop.This may say "return" and "send" and you can hookup a pedal through that to bypass the input jack.Then just plug in normally to the front of the amp.Also check to see if there is a 1/4 input on the back that may say "footswitch".If so,fender makes a button footswitch that comes with most of their middle of the road combo's.This plugs in just like a guitar cable and will switch your channels.

    If you need a recomendation on a distortion pedal go with MXR.Its a little morre expensive(by $10.00 maybe),but its the best bang your gonna get out of a pedal.

    Fender Hor Rod deville footswitch
    If the footswitch is not switching correctly, open it up and check for any shorts or a defective switch. Sounds like it's a problem with the switch.
