You need to go to Garmins web site the link is below just click the link or copy an paste it in to your web browser here is the link

Once you get to Garmins web page look at the top of the page to the right where it says My Garmin. Click on that and then set up a user name and password. After that you can register your new Garmin and download any updates that are available. In order to download the updates you will need a USB cable (his will hook up your Garmin to your computer) if your unit did not come with one you can buy it from the store you bought your unit from, but in all honesty you will get it cheaper on ebay.

Hi.

No it doesn't. Garmin devices have one free map update included when you buy it new. You need to register your product online to get it.

You can purchase lifetime map updates on garmin.com or buy one upgrade at a time.

I logged in to register my new product and dont see instructions to register.
Go to Garmin.com > Support > Product Registration > Choose Category > Create an account. Follow the steps listed on the site. Hope this helps.

My nuvi 265W screen keeps flashing the "GARMIN" startup logo...and wont stop
I can help you reset and fix your Garmin Nuvi 265W.

Getting stuck on the flashing Garmin logo, or a message about not finding any maps, are indications that the firmware / system software inside your GPS has been corrupted.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265W running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

Connect your Nuvi to your computer with a USB connector.

Go here: https://buy.garmin.com/support/productSupport/productSupport.faces?productId=13430

Click "Go to My Dashboard". It will ask you to install a program. After you've installed it, it will analyze your Nuvi and continue to "My Dashboard".

Click "Register Now".

You can also upload any firmware updates from this page.
