If the camera is used you may have a problem with the seller. Before jumping into conclusions however read your manual for your solution or simply search youtube for a help video. Hopefully this helped.
1st u reset the factory setting and then u see the lense is correctly fitted or not and the autofocus option is working or the manual focusing is there or not
I see this same problem occuring all over the internet on Canon lenses. Autofocus not working any longer. For some stupid reason the lense will lock up and quit autofocus while other lenses will work fine. A light pull on the lense focus ring away from the camera body will give a noticable pop or click which unlocks the jammed lense. Try it if you are having troubles with your autofocus. This is a very common problem and worth giving it a try.
Since Nikon doesn't have a 55mm lens in its current lineup, I'm going to assume it's a rather old lens (though probably newer than my 55mm). As such, it won't have an internal focusing motor, and thus will not autofocus on the D60. The D60 requires lenses designated AF-S in order to autofocus.
Same happened to mine ,Its almost as though the motor has dis-engaged.I SOLVED MINE BY FORCING THE FOCUS RING WITH AUTOFOCUS ENGAGED THIS SEEMS TO HAVE RE ENGAGED THE MOTOR .HOWEVER BE CAREFUL I HAD LITTLE TO LOSE MINE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WHEN I DID THIS.Its perfect since.
