Why is my camera saying memory full when it has no pics or videos stored in it?

the card needs to be formatted either by the camera or by a PC prior to it being used. You may have to do a reset of the camera to get it to behave normally. Keep in mind, that doing this will erase anything saved.

SD Card Problems with Vivitar Vivicam 5118!

What size is the memory card. If it's larger than 4GB then it won't work in the 5118.
Try using another card. Don't format it in your computer but do format it in the camera before trying to take pictures.

OK I keep sliding the lock un lock on the side of the memory card and it still says memory error. I cant do anything with my camera..now what??

Welcome to Fixya

Looks like you havea already have a defective memory card. Try to insert a differnet memory card and see if it will give you the same error.

Purchased new memory card for my canon powershot A520 and I keep getting a "memory card error". I've purchased two different cards and get the same error message. Original card that came with...

From page 145 of the A520 user manual, it appears that the largest SD memory card that this camera is able to use is a 512MB SD memory card. The manual is dated "2004", so this size limitation is not unusual for a camera of this era.
If you've purchased anything larger, there is a good chance that it won't work with this model camera.

Memory card error

Try using the "format" option in the setup menu. That should wipe any "bad" data off the card. Beware! It will erase anything you already have on the card, so make sure there isn't anything on you need to keep.
