Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. The part number is 41A2817 and is available from Sears or any good door opener service company. It comes with instructions.

SOURCE: How do I tighten sagging garage door chain?

I think you have more problems than just a sagging chain. It is most likely sagging because the bronze bushing at the gear and sprocket assembly is bad. It lets the sprocket lean forward and loosens the chain. You will also need to remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white gear just in front of the motor and is most likely stripped.

SOURCE: My Liftmaster GDO makes a clicking sound and won't open

See if the trolley is jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. If so remove the bolt and then run the opener until the door is closed. While the door is closed locate the 'up limit' control which is on the side of the motor unit. Turn this control 2 complete turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Remember to replace the bolt.

My Lift Master garage door will not close. It makes the closing noise but the door does not slide down. Whcan I talk to to fix this?

Sounds like you have a chain drive garage door opener and you hear a humming sound when you push the wall console. The motor is running but the chain does not move. You need to replace the gear & sprocket assembly.

M otor hums but door does not open

If the motor is running and the chain or belt isn't moving, you have a broken gear in the opener.

You need to remove the cover and look at the drive gear. It is probably stripped. I really recommend a technician to repair your door.

Garage door doesn't open or close

You should check the gears inside the box, After years , the gears get dry and die, you can by online or from Sears the kit and replace the old gears. I just changed mine...not too difficult :) .
