Our TomTom One N14644 has started shutting itself down after three or so different screens, so no complete address can be entered. We tried reset, and now it shuts itself down at the select voice screen. We tried computer update and no fix. Suggestions? We have had it 18 months.

There are free downloads / updates of tomtom firmware from the tomtom home site but as far as I know there are no free updates for maps. The firmware updates can be performed using tomtom home software that came with your tomtom or by going to http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17

You will need to connect your tomtom to your PC via USB and have the SD card in as the update will perform updating of certain files on the card.

The update will allow better function and enable faster fixes on satellite's and also iron out any reported bugs that have become known to tomtom so its well worth doing.

on you main menu go to the wrench picture, that is change preferences. Then touch the arrow, above done on the screen 3 times til you reach the screen that has "3 flags flying. that is the icon to change language. touch that, choose english us and you're done.

Map updates are not free, with the exception of a few units. Check your box, as they sell some units with lifetime maps and traffic.
