The main gear in the main control box plastic gear is stripped. Remove door opener main box and inspect. It can usually be ordered or rebuilt.

SOURCE: I have a craftsman garage door opener and recently

Anytime a door opens and/or closes randomly or doesn't work consistently I look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation and activate the door or interfere with the remote signal.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.

Or a remote in someone

Why does the overhead light on my garage door opener go off & on without any reason, day or night, even when door is not in use?

There's a gremlin living in your overhead light.....lol. The circuit board in the opener has the timer for the light. There's a component that's beginning to fail on it. Replace the circuit board.

HBW0777 garage door opener. pulled debris from around one sensor light. Now neither sensor light is on.

You may have broken the wire going to the sensor. Some older models have wiring that unplugs at the sensor. This could be the case here and it is unplugged.

The main light flashing 10 times is the sign of a door sensor problem. Check to see if the small light on each sensors is lit and not flickering. If you cannot get both lights to come on your sensors or the wiring to them is bad.

On the rear of the motor unit you will find the 'down force' control. Increase this just a little and try. Don't overdo it as it affects the safety settings. Make sure one of the sensor lights is not flickering ever so slightly. Tweak them a bit.

Sensor not working on my craftsman half horse garage door opener.

Make sure the sensors are pointed at one another. Each has a small light that must be lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you need to replace the sensors.

Garage door opener won't open garage door

Remove the cover and take a look at the drive gear. It sounds like it is stripped.

Garage door opener won't open garage door

did you use the manual release to unlatch the door from the opener? You may have a problem with the door binding and opening it manually will confirm that. You may also have misaligned the sensors at the base of the door so check that too.

Garage Door Openenr Motor Buzz

Look at your manuel find the page that shows the limit access switch. (Unplug your opener.) It isn't really a switch, but the three white plastic screw like parts. The center has a brown wire connected to it, which has a metal piece that is as wide as all three white screws. The outside screws are your limit access stop guides, one for the up control stop guide and the other for the down control stop guide. If the center screw with the metal part gets caught behind on of the stop guides the motor will not engage. Gently move metal piece from behind the stop guide.
