I get 2/3rds of the way into installing the software and driver with the set-up disc that came with the Epson V500 Scanner, then a Error Pop Up message appears saying the following. Could Not Copy Files Make Sure the Target Disc is not Read-Only I tried downloading the software and driver from the Epson website, and still the same problem happens with the error message. What am I doing wrong? I am running Windows XP Professional (32bit system)

Check that it is installing to the correct file. Normally C Drive "Program files" I would suggest you go to the control panel and locate and completely uninstall the Epson scanner program first. This will give you a clean install. Check that during the installation, the disc may ask where you want the program to be installed. If it has a suggestion, let it instal itself, where it thinks is best.

SOURCE: Epson 4490 photo scanner drivers will not install on winxp system

I'm running Windows XP and have had similar problems - where the install process informs of a problem (at beginning of install) and to "Restart and try again".

Eventually resolved issue by selecting "Custom" install, then ticking all the selection boxes as had been automatically done in "Recommended" install - then continue with the install.

All sections of software now installed correctly.

Try shutting down your computer and then unplug from the power source. Wait a minute then plug it back in and turn on the computer.

Accept the driver installation even though it does not pass Windows Logo testing. Just accept it and continue with the installation.

Epson v500 Photo scanner was working but now gives a red light and whirring noise when opening the app installed on Mac - gives warning "cannot properly connect with scanner".

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try for your Epson V500 Photo scanner: Check the connections: Ensure that your scanner is properly connected to your computer and turned on. Check the cables and ports for any damage or loose connections. Restart your computer: Sometimes, restarting your computer can fix communication issues between your scanner and computer. Reinstall the scanner software: Try uninstalling and reinstalling the scanner software on your computer. You can download the latest software from the Epson website. Check for updates: Make sure that your scanner software and computer operating system are up to date. Try a different USB port: Plug the scanner into a different USB port on your computer and see if it makes a difference. Reset the scanner: Turn off the scanner and unplug it from the power source. Wait a few minutes and then plug it back in and turn it on. If these steps don't resolve the issue, it's possible that there may be a hardware problem with the scanner that needs to be repaired.

Get an error report when trying to load driver

I have many years of repairing Canon scanners and here is my suggestion to you.

I would first go to Epson's website and download their latest driver. Before you install those drivers disconnect the cable that goes from your scanner to your computer. Then install the driver, when the process completes or if your prompted to by the software then connect the cable from the scanner to your computer. Your scanner must be powered on when you do this so your computer sees the scanner. You will get a pop up window saying a new device or new drivers are being installed at this point. The point that the software completes installation I reboot (restart) the computer and your scanner should be ready to use then.

I hope this helps you out.

Computer no longer recognizes my scanner

If you are using a multi port USB adapter that allows you to plug many devices into one USB port it may interfere with the scanner. Try uninstalling your Epson driver then download the newest one from the Epson website. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=88368&prodoid=63070478&BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=Downloads&platform=All&x=27&y=14

Install the newest driver first then plug your scanner into a single USB port on the computer instead of the multi port.
