Question about Sony Bravia KDL-46X2000 46 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

1 Answer

Hi, I live in a flat in London with a shared rooftop aerial (no idea of spec). I have a Sony KDL-46X2000. The built-in freeview tuner doesn't seem to recieve any HD channels. Is the built-in tuner the problem? Thanks

Make sure you have a good connection from antenna to TV. Check antenna and cable and cable connection to TV. Select DIGITAL button on TV remote when wanting HD channels. Remember HD channels are always digital. Also, any given TV station may not be broadcasting in HD at a given time. They can broadcast in digital but in standard definition sometimes. Your TV has a built-in DVB-T tuner. Try executing a channel scan to pick up all available channels. On-screen menus go to Digital Setup, then Digital Tuning, you can auto-tune or manual tune channels. The TV should take a few min. to scan thru available channels and store the channels its finds. Check with anyone in your area to see if they get HD channels (it is possible to be outside of the range of some TV stations) Your TV is a 2006 model and should still be compatible with local digital TV broadcasts but keep in mind digital signals could change in the near future (DVB-T2) and you may need a tuner/converter box to make the TV compatible.

I have an LCD HDTV BLA. I have Freeview and

Hi.

If you are using an external freeview box you need an HD box (See available products).

If you have an LCD TV with built-in HD tuner (TV will say HD Ready and will have internal tuner), then you can use the TV internal tuner.

The best way to get HD is via satellite. Althought HD Freeview is theoretically available since end 2009 I have not been able to receive any HD channel using Freeview tuner, and I live in a London area where HD FV is supposed to be available since 2010.
Even with Free Sat the choice is poor. You get steadily only BBC HD, where at most you can watch some documentary or drama series (it is a kind of sample channel). ITV HD, BBC1 HD and the rest frequencies on Astra change Sat quite often. I am a TV technician and the sat tuning job is not difficult to me but retuning every month was still an awful waste of time.At the end I gave up and I only watch HD through Sky.

At the end of the day the only efficient way to receive HD TV is still through Virgin or Sky.

Regards.

Is freeview available on a bravia 32 inch kdl 32l 40xx television please thankyou

Hello Keith,

Yes, it has a built-in DVB-T* tuner which is what you need to tune Freeview channels. It also has an analogue tuner if required.

* Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial

You can view the full specifications for this model by clicking on the link below and you can download a user manual from there if you need one.

If you already own this TV and are unable to receive or tune Freeview channels, please let me know and I will be able to assist you with this.

Hope this helps

I have an Alba 32880hdf freeview tv. I cannot record freeview programmes to my panasonic NV-FJ 780 vcr which has 2 scart sockets. I have no problem recording the teresteral channels. Can you help pls

Hi Victor,

You can't record the Freeview channels from the TV. It doesn't work that way. The reason you can still record terrestrial channels is because the VCR is still connected to your roof aerial with a co-axial cable and the VCR has its own built-in analogue tuner for recording terrestrial TV programmes.

To record the digital Freeview channels, you will either need to connect a separate Freeview set-top box to the VCR, or buy a VCR which has a built-in digital (DVB-T) tuner.

The VCR does not record programmes from the TV. It needs to be connected directly to the signal source, i.e. your aerial.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know.

My sony Bravia KDL-37P55xx seems to be recieving no signal from our aerial. I know the aerial works as I have checked it with other tvs in the house. Is there a quick fix solution for this

Make sure that the TV is on the right setting, either TV for analog pictures, or DTV for digital. Run a complete auto-setup. This will wipe the tuner memory and re-scan. Hopefully this should sort the problem. If you have tested the aerial cable with another TV in place of that one (not just on a cable from the same aerial in another room) and it works but that one won't, then it will be down to a TV fault. If this helps, please rate me!

I have just moved house to Reading and previously was able to view freeview tv using my old indoor aerial in my 2nd floor flat in london. This indoor aerial didn't pick up any signals, not even analogue,...

You will need to have an outdoor aerial installed, the signal area you're now living in will not be a strong enough reception for an indoor aerial no matter how good or expensive. You could try the indoor aerial in different positions around the room especially by a window to try & pick up some other channels but the long term this will cause some of the programmes to break up or freeze. An aerial on the roof or in the attic will be your best solution to pick up all the digital channels on freeview.

I want to add a DVD recorder into my TV set up

If I'm right On the DVD recorder there should be an aerial input and an output. Connect external aerial to the output then run a second from the output to the TV. Then use the HDMI to connect the DVD. This will then give you the option of recording one channel on the DVD whilst watching another thru the receiver thats built into the TV. You will then get the best poss picture when viewing DVD

Cut out

I had the same problem with this model, seems to be a common problem across much of the recent sony range. For me the problem stopped when I unplugged the external aerial (not much use if you want to use freeview, but maybe some indicator of source of the prob ?)
