At a guess the outside handle has become detached from the linkage inside the door and you've got the child lock on as well.

Well to get the child lock off, you need a long fairly broad plastic strip, I've used the long side cut out of a plastic milk carton in the past.

Wind the window in the offending door down, then insert the plastic strip in the door gap underneath the handle, once in try the internal door handle, if it fails try again working your way down the door by widths of the plastic strip, trying the internal door handle as you go, with luck you'll have release the child lock by the 3-4th try.

Once open, its taking the inside door card off and re-attaching the linkage for the outside handle.

SOURCE: electrical problem with car 2006 Jetta 2.5

I appear to have an electrical problem. First my battery kept draining. I thought it was a problem with the radio so i pulled the radio fuse for a couple of days. Now as i drive it the drivers door (open) light comes on and wont go off. Today i went to get gas and the electric gas cap opener wont work.

I believe it's 1993-1998 that are the same. I'm not sure if you'd be close enough, but I'm actually parting out a 1998 Jetta, and have both rear doors. You can email me if you still need it. [email protected]

Rear door will not open

after you find a way of opening it. I suggest you get to the inner boot door panels and remove them to expose the lock and manually open it.

After this i think your problem lies in the wiring. chase back the cables that feed the door lock and you more often will find a fatigued cable torn or broken. a common occurance to my Montigo Estate.
