Washer agitates but will not spin. Burning smell coming from motor

The water pump could be stuck, or broken so the pulley on the pump is not spinning, while the belt is, which gives you the burning smell. Could also mean the motor is overheating giving you the burning smell. You will have to open the back and observe whats happening while its running. Just keep your hands clear while its working.

Lent is damp dryer takes too long to dry and burning smell

Your burning smell might just be lint which has been loosened by you, getting onto the dryer's heating element. If this is the case, the smell should not last long, nor will it damage the dryer.
