Our Kenmore washer model #110-24292300 - Stopped and Will Not Start.. mid cycle with a load of laundry still sitting in it. Will not spin the water out and will not re start. We have tried unplugging it and turning it back on ...slowly turning the dial to the various settings & positions...still nothing. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? ... The low humming sound is indicative that the start / run capacitor has failed. It give the motor an electrical jolt to get it going. Call for service and tell them the story.

What is the complete model number of your unit?

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number (Usually a number such as 110.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts. You should be able to find the model number on the cabinet after lifting the lid.

If you cannot hear the motor turning at all, the problem points to one of a few places.

1. The timer. Check to see if it is moving at all.

2. The timer motor, this drives the timer.

3. The Lid Switch, If this is bad, the washer won't get into drain / spin mode.

4. The motor or capacitor themselves.

The timer is bad and should be replaced.

check your lid switch.

Manually move the timer to the SPIN mode and turn it on.
If nothing happens, replace the lid switch.
With a model number I could be more specific.
