Hi, there! I think your problem is coming from the PCL6 driver. .Here's where you can download it (reinstall if necessary). And, as you seem pretty computer-literate, given the details you gave to help troubleshoot, here's a discussion of the issue, too:
I think u have installed the PCL 5 or PCL 6 driver.Not to worry
Go to www.hp.com and download the PS driver for LJ 3055. Install the driver,u will not get the PCL XL error any more.
Did you reinstall the printer drivers on the pc? I have found that if you are having difficulty with a printer which uses a pcl 6 driver, if you change it to pcl 5 driver it usually solves the problem. You do get a loss of functionality though but it is usually only with the advanced settings which most people dont take advantage of anyway. HP pcl6 drivers are very often buggy.
