Linksys Wireless-G WAP54G 802.11g/b Wireless Access Point Logo
Posted on May 10, 2011

I have a Wireless G Access point WAP54G and because i had lost the username and passord we had set up i reset the device and then since the device didn't go back to the default username and password I used the CD-ROM that accompanied the device and followed the instructions and from the moment i pressed on the button in front until it becomes white as the setup guide said, the "act" led stopped working and so as the white button too. From then on there is no wireless connection at all and whatever i've tried does not work. As I am a newbie at this I'd appreciate it if someone could help me at this. thanks in advance!

Try connecting straight to the router and go to 192.168.2.1. or 192.168.1.1
Default login is admin.

You can check your configuration settings here, as well as restore it to factory settings.

I cannot find the setup CD of my Linksys WAP54G Access Point, and I cannot configure it properly again. For some reason it is not working.

Problaby a hard reset will solve your problem.
There's a small red reset button at the backside of the device.
push it for at least 10 seconds.
tip

Default IP, Password

The factory default settings for the WAP54G are:

  • IP address: 192.168.1.245 (Note: NOT .254)
  • password: admin
  • username: blank -- there is no username by default.
Some versions of Firefox and Safari will not let you authenticate with no username. If you're unable to log in with a blank username, try admin

tip

How to reset to factory defaults

If you've lost the address/password information for your WAP54g, or if you've bought a used one and need to reset the configuration, follow these steps:

Step 1: Connect the power to the WAP54G. The "Act" light on the front of the unit should be on.

Step 2: Connect a network cable (cat5, normal or crossover cable is fine) from the WAP54g to your computer.

Step 3: set your computer's network interface as follows:

  • Specify an IP address manually,
  • ip: 192.168.1.2
  • netmask: 192.168.1.255 (for Linux)
  • netmask: 255.255.255.0 (for Windows)
  • default gateway: 192.168.1.1

It doesn't matter what your DNS settings are for this exercise.
** BE SURE TO NOTE WHAT YOUR OLD SETTINGS WERE, so you can reset your computer when you're done!

Step 4: On the back of the WAP54g, locate the "reset" button. Use a paperclip or the tip of a pen to press and HOLD this button for 60 seconds. Yes, really, a full 60 seconds. If you release the button before that time, just hit the reset button again, and start the 60-second timer over again.

Step 5: After 60 seconds, release the "reset" button and unplug the power connection from the WAP54G, and wait 10 seconds, then plug the power back into the WAP54G. The "Act" light on the front should light up again.

Finally, on your computer -- point a web browser at http://192.168.1.245/
It should prompt for a username and password.
  • For Internet Explorer, leave the username blank and put admin in the password
  • For Firefox and Safari, put admin in the username and admin in the password

And there you have it!

I can not access the linksys access point, the 192.168.1.245 does not link.

the default address is 192.168.1.1. if you still can't access you can factory default by pressing and holding the reset button on the back for about 10 seconds. after it restarts the ip address will be 192.168.1.1 leave the username blank and the password will be admin.

First you must be sure you are connected to the router (by wireless or cable). Than you have to open a browser and access 192.168.1.245. You will be asked for an username and passowrd. Username case leave it blank and the password is admin
To set a password for wireless you need to go to wireless configuration. For more detailed info look in the users guide at chapter 3. You can find user guide here : http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WAP54G

Also you can reset the access point, by putting a paper clip into the reset hole for a few seconds. I think the default username and password is "admin"
