Hi,
I had a similar problem of it loading and then never showing the menu on the TV.
I am pretty sure something happened with the firmware because the TV and cables are always the same and it was working fine until some time ago. Then after a few months (during which I also had to connect the hard disk to a linux computer on a couple of occasions, and saw the extra partitions), it stopped showing the menu after booting when connected to the TV.
Do you reckon there might be a solution that does NOT require firmware update? Cause if I launch the update it says all data will be removed (doesn't seem to give an option to leave it) and I have over 500GB of data in, and no other large HD where to save a backup...
Thanks to whoever has suggestions!
Have you tried connecting it to a different TV? Using different cables?
Check if there is a firmware update for it.

I had a similar issue with my WD TV Plus and a firmware update fixed it.
