If the unit is freezing up your fan might not be working or you may have a leak in the refrigeration system. But both of those thing cost more than a new dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers are not worth repairing they are disposable. hope this helps.

How to remove filter on ahd50

if this model doesnt have the removable filter on the middle right side then the filter is not removable by std means and unit will need to be dissasembled for this , Now there are a few reasons for unit to freeze , and yes your right one of them is a dirty air filter . and if its gone too far then a dirty condenser coil as well , also if unit is over three years old then it's possible that due to overheating some of the gas chanrge has gotten out , reducing it's efficency making it run longer with no cool down and freezes up , also if your asking it to remove more water than its designed for (setting to high) it will freeze up as well , std moisture for a home is 70 %rh purchase a small meter to measure this ,(some units have one built in) see how much water you really have ?

Ihava a dehumidifier MOdel#106955250. The coils are icing up, can you help me?

as with any freeze up of any unit (any mfg) there are a few things to look at first before consulting a profesional ,
1st ck your filter most units have a filter these are the most forgoten things when it comes to reg cleaning , remove it and run under tap shake excess water off and replace in unit
2nd is unit warm enoght to work air temp has to excede 68 degrees for these to work
3rd how old is unit if unit is over three years and has been largely neglected for cleaning and maint issues then overheating can cause gas charge to leak out and cause freeze ups , replacement is only option on this reason
4th setting: is unit large enoght to remove water from area if its undersize it runs too hard and never cycles off/on this causes freeze ups , purchase a small humidmeter to measure the area % rh 70%rh is considered normal for a home

What causes the unit to freeze up?

There are two major causes of a dehumidifier or air conditioner to freeze up the evaporator coil. First is lack of air flow try cleaning or replacing the air filter if it has one; make sure the fan is running and the coils are clean. Second is a low charge of refrigerant in which case it may be cheaper to replace the unit than have a certified repair person fix it. Make sure to recycle the old unit if you replace it.

My dehumidifier will not stop running coils frost up musty odor from it

there is a freeze stat on the unit it connects to the evaporater coils it is suppose to shut of the compressor unit when it senses the temp is at freezing the idea is that the unit condenses moisture out of the air like your air conditioner for your house or car this part is dirty or malfunctionong

Freezes up

Most of the time that problem is due to loss of refrigerant. If the unit is under warranty, call for repair - you may end up with a replacement unit. Otherwise, find what a local repair shop will charge for checking out the unit.

I hope this helps.

The coils keep freezing on my gold star dehumidifier

Try turning the setting down lower in order to help the unit cycle on and off, rather than have to run constantly.

It could be that your situation requires more than one dehumidifier for the space you're trying to cover with this one unit. These units are not designed to operate 24/7 without cycling on and off frequently.

The situation you're experiencing tells me that you have either an extreme amount of moisture where the unit is placed, or the area is much to large for just one unit to handle. If you can issolate the unit to one area by closing a door, etc. if that isn't possible, you'll likely need another dehumidifier to help reduce the load on this one that's freezing up while helping reduce the amount of moisture in the area.

If that doesn't help, please provide more details about the area the unit is being used in and the size of the room, etc., so I can further assist you in solving the problem. Thanks!

Amana 30 (looks like dk25) unit runs but coils freeze up

Most dehumidifiers have a defrost mode in which the compressor is turned off to give time for the frozen water to melt. The freezing problem ocurrs when the unit is used in very cold weather. Check your manual to see if this unit comes with automatic defrost mode. If it does, it would appear that it is not operating correctly and you can request warranty service. If no defrost mode is available, then your only option is to heat up the room in order to use the dehumidifer within its limit of operation. Some units can operate as low as 36 F, but most units cannot go that low. Find out what your unit's specs are from the manufacturers web site.
