SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

If that doesn't do it, try another card.

After locking memory card, do I then unlock it to take pictures and will that then erase the memory card or can you tell me how to so

Locking the memory card prevents you from taking and adding photos to the memory card. It also prevents you from deleting photos from the memory card.
If you want to erase all the photos off the memory card. unlock the memory card, go to the camera's Menu and scroll through the settings ti Format the memory card, then format the memory card.

My memory card is locked

Remove the memory card - take your finger nail and slide the tiny lever that says "lock" on the side of the memory card to the "unlock" position. Then reinsert the memory card and it will no longer be locked.

Cant take photos and the LCD screen says "Memory card is locked. Slide lock to 'write' position"

I don't own this camera but My guess is your memory card is in a LOCK SETTING you need to move the memory card to unlocked " wrirte " so you memory card isn't locked.....
Step 1 remove the card from you're camera
Step 2 there is a small little side on the side of the memory chip move that to the unlock position.
step 3 insert the card and start shooting!

Locked Memory Card

I use a Nikon D300 and have Sandisk Compact Flash memory cards. i ahve not come across this problem but would suggest that you insert the memory card into your camera and reformat the memory card. This should clear any errors in the system BUT IT WILL ALSO WIPE ANY PHOTOGRAPHS YOU AHVE TAKEN when formating the memory card.

Memory card locked

I noticed that this camera does not work well with cheaper memory cards. The only brand that works without fail is the SanDisk brand.
