I have the same problem with my connection using the same divices.(modem:SB4100, and belkin wireless router). I think it's a problem between the modem and the wireless router, for the computers connected via the ethernet port in the router still work very well

I assume this is a cable modem? You need to call your cable company and have a trouble ticket created. I worked for the cable company installing cable for quite a while and I bet my paycheck the signal getting to the modem are below specs and that's why the modem gets dropping the internet connection.

Hope this helps.

I cant get my motorola sb5101 surf board cable modem to connect to a belkin g wireless router. the light on the belkin flashes orange when i try to connect it to the modem but no internet connection

I have a similar problem. The common denominator seems to be the SB5101. I have a brand new Belkin Surf 300N, same issue. The modem will not give DHCP to the router. I can connect fine via ethernet to the modem directly.
This modem seems to be a dinosaur.

What is the best router to buy for a SURFboard SB4100 Cable Modem?

For this one the best router that I can think that you can consider in using are this 2 model , for a regular wireless G router you can get this model WRT54G , but if you have a large house and needs a stronger and wider signal for the wireless computers you can get this WRT300N they are both from Linksys.

I want internet on the other side of house

In order for you to accomplish that goal what you need to buy is a wireless router that can be located on the other side of your house so computers there can have internet access wired or wirelessly connected to the router. You can get a wireless router from Linksys, Netgear , Dlink or Belkin.

PC losing connections (ethernet) with Belkin router

This can be a problem with the firmware of the router, so the first thing that you can do to correct this problem is to do a firmware upgrade on the router and that should correct the problem......

Motorola SB5100 and linksys router connection

The only thing that you need to setup on your Linksys for it to work with cable is to make sure that DHCP is enabled on the router.  You will need to plug your router into the modem via the ethernet cable and then plug your neighbors pc into a link port on the router (the cable modem plugs into the internet port)  You will also need to follow the reboot procedure.  Power everything off.
1: Turn on the surfboard and wait about 1 minute for the surfboard to make a connection with your ISP (the link light should come on).
2:Turn on your router and wait for your router to sync up with the surfboard . 3: Turn on your computer. Whenever you plug anything into a cable modem, you must recycle power to the modem.  It "remembers" the last device that was plugged into it, so it's memory needs to be cleared.

Can I use my router just as a Wireless router with a DSL .

i doubt it will work. most times the cable companies give you a modem/router all in one box. the problem is there in no inbound connection to recieve an internet signal other than the cable cord connection. with the dsl modem you will need a seperate router. they cost around $40-50 on avg
