While taking prom photos, the screen turned to all vertical lines, and you couldn't make out what I was taking a photo of. I took the photo anyway and it came out the same. Just a lot of vertical lines. I didn't change any settings or do anything different that I know of. What do you think could be wrong. It did it a few times about 10 minutes apart with good photos taken in between.

if you are getting lines on screen and photo then there is probably something wrong with the sensor.
If it was just the screen its dead pixels in the screen. Unlikely to be a foreign body, eg hair or dust, inside as there is no way to open this camera up like a dslr.
to test this just take a photo of a plain grey card, and check the result.
Go to ur Gmail app. At bottom bring up account settings. Then click the Gmail account pull up the sync settings. Unchecked pacosa web photos. Then try again to delete pics. I had this issue... when u sync to pacosa ur pics send to ur Gmail n can't b erased. Hope I helps.
If you let me know in which location of the screen is located I can assist with the possible cause since the vertical line can be caused by different items based on where its located on the Screen such as center of screen, or far right side or midle of the right half side of the screen. Reply to this same post with where the line is located and I will assist you with it.
I'm having the same problem. The first foto looks alright but the rest is as above. I do'nt have a sollution but i had removed the battery and the memory card and left the camera open in the hope it will be a damp issue. just now i take some new foto's and i still got the stripes but i have a picture. Hope some one will have the right sollution.
Take no more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones:
Are the vertical lines on the images when you view them on screen, or only after you print them on a laser printer of some kind. If the lines are on screen, your issue is in the device sensor. If the lines are on printed images, try aligning your print heads (use your printer utilities whenever you replace an ink cartridge), or take the images to a kiosk (Kodak and others have those at verious retail outlets).
