Couldn't understand the solution... not very computer literate. Can you explain what I need to do.

first of all , check your r4 version.
there are many.
have you put the right firmware on your r4?

or maybe you should format your memory card first.
i cant remember which link from above did not work, i think the 2nd or 3rd one, otherwise the download worked fine and playing Professor Layton and the Curious Village right now! ;-).
remember ds dsi and dslite are region free so dont worry about the game just play even if you cant understand the language.

Hi have a new r4 revolution ndsl/nds card it is always comming up with cant find ds menu u.dat can you help
I found that on the Micro SD card I had managed to put the files in extra folders so the DS couldn't find them.
When I deleted the folders and had just the four files that I'd downloaded (DS Menu dat, moonshell etc) showing along with the games folder, it worked.
The DS was looking for the files and couln't see them because they were within the folder.
I keep getting the message menu ? in red in little box looks like chip can anyone help i cant get anything on there im useing 4mb micro chip r4i helpppppppppppppppppppp please
If you put the micro sd card in the usb then put it in a computer click on open files or view file then go to r4 menu and go ds mrnu dat and drag it in your moon shell document and then duplicate the file (right click new-document - ds menu dat ) then take the ds menu dat to r4 menu then save and/or save and voila all done
My r4 is in chinese i dont know it got like that first it was in english now i dont know what to do....

1. make shoure its not in any folder!
2. make sure the name is correct(DS_MENU of couse)
3. make shore its opened by windows media player
How to get it in windows medai player
1. right click it (dsmenu of courecse)
2. sroll down to open with(i think it that or propertys)-(ok so i forgot a little but i still can help)
3. then scrool down to windows meda player then chose it
4. I REPET DO NOTT DO NOTT CHANGE ANY THNIG ELSE!!!!!!! MAKE SOURE ITS NOT IN ANY FOLDERS!!!! OR ANY THING ELSE!!!!

I was getting the 'couldn't find the ds menu.dat' error. It was because I didn't know that the kernal I had downloaded was compressed and I had to use winRAR to uncompress it. Once I'd done that it loaded fine. Also, I had problems loading using a micro SDHC in a R4 flash cartridge that could only read micro SD cards. It would say 'loading...' forever and ever. So anyways, another steep learning curve under this newbie's belt. Hope this helps save a few hours of hair-pulling for someone else.

Drag and dropped to DS.
Jobs done! No extracting folders, just as is when winrar opens up.

This problem can only be solved by bying a new R4 beacause no websites have:how to download it, or waht the problem is.
So don't bother trying anymore!!!!!!

I actually lost the USB that they ssupplied with the R4 kit..
so i was just wondering if i could use a differnt usb card reader so solve my problem.......i jus want 2noe,,, if u hav an answer plzzz comment

SOURCE: couldn't dind ds-menu.dat using R4 card
you can download the files needed for the r4 just google it. You may need to use dslazy or fixit in order for the game to operate. good luck!

Thanks. The main problem was the software disc is no longer supplied and the supplier did not send *any* information about these files.
www.r4ds.com has been down for ages but when I bought another the supplier explained that there was in software included but did siggest the above website and www.r4sdhc.com or www.ndslr4.com.
I downloaded files and it was sorted.

Yet I am still getting the message 'Couldn't find_DS_MENU.DAT' on the DS. Yet I know that there is definately a file called that on the SD card. Very confused!!!

After downloading and decompressing the new updated files, there will be one shell folder and two files _DS_MENU.DAT、 _DS_MSHL.NDS.Copy these files to the root directory of TF card to replace the former files

my problem is that i got myself a new 4gb sd card and i downloaded all the firmware for the original r4 and dragged and dropped them in the sd card and i put all my games that i had in my 2gb sd card in my 4gb sd card and when i put it in it just syas "Loading..." i hope someone can help :D
