That lens will work with the D3100, except for the autofocusing. In order to autofocus with the D3100, you need AF-S lenses, such as the AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED or the
AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR.

How to take apart Nikon lens 28-300mm

Do you have a lens collimator and other equipment needed to reassemble the lens properly? Otherwise you may as well disassemble it with a sledgehammer---it'll work just as well afterwards.

I'm not questioning your ability, but your equipment. Would you rebuild a car engine using the tools in your kitchen? Would you service a flat-screen television using the automotive tools in your garage? A camera lens is a precision piece of equipment, requiring its own specialized tools.

Operating nikkor 70-300mm f4.5-f5.6 with nikon d5100

No Nikon lens ever zooms automatically, so I assume you mean focus.
The D5100 lacks an autofocus motor, requiring the lens to have one. The older 70-300mm lenses lack this motor, expecting the camera body to have one.
The D5100 will only autofocus with lenses designated AF-S or AF-I. It will not autofocus with older AF-D and AF-G lenses.

How fix the back focus of Nikon AF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G? unable to focus whatever adjust made from the lens.

Hello marion.... Rutn the camera on and open up the menu. Find the reset function and reset the camera. All that does is reset it to the factory settings, the settings it had when you first took it out of the box. In most instances this will fix the problem. If it does, great. If not, take it or send it into a Nikon repair shop. Opening it up your self will void the warranty. Joe

I have had bad results using this lens on full zoom - the image looks fine through the viewfinder but the picture is very grainy and the colours are poor and lack quality - the weather conditions were not...

generally when a zoom extends to max, it defaults to a higher aperture number - which means a smaller hole that lets in less light. The auto settings then increase the ISO (light sensitivity) to compensate. If you hit the high end of the ISO for your camera, you get grainy photos.

Try the same 'full zoom' on a bright day - and you should see the difference. The ultimate cure? Stick to brighter situations or spend money on a body with a higher ISO sensitivity or a lens with a fixed aperture. The least expensive approach is to shoot in situations with more light.

Please recommend digital SLR nikon cacmera for this lens

Any Nikon digital SLR will work with this lens. However, there are two things to consider.

On cameras other than the D700 and the D3 family, the smaller sensor will make the lens appear as a 105-315mm. On the D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, and D5000 cameras, you will lose the autofocus capability.

My Nikkor 70-300mm lens will not zoom

First thing: Don't try to zoom it at all anymore. The mechanism inside is broken or somehow disconnected, and you can make it worse by trying. Please take it in for repairs as a camera pro will need to look at it.
