I don't know how to adjust the bright and dark for the screen.

how about in the menu button you can not get an adjustment in brightness control. if the display in the screen is too dark either in any channel or even watching a movie from an input source like dvd player, then i may say that the picture tube need now replacement.

For the brightness adjustment, it is not doable for current firmware. I don't know whether it will be available on future version or not too.. hope so..

I've recently come to the realization that my computer monitor screen is not properly calibrated. In different web forums where photos are posted, I'm noticing that I can't make out a lot of the pictures people are talking about - they're too dark. I've also noticed this when printing out CD covers - detail in the shadows that I never saw on the screen. Also, every time I show people digital photos, I have to turn up the brightness (in Photoshop) to anywhere between 25 - 50 %! Needless to say, I need to calibrate my monitor. For a test, I downloaded one of those "black level" graphs whrere the squares go from dark to light and you should be able to see every square clearly - I can only see half before they disappear into all blackness.

I have one of those old "turn of the century" big Dell Monitors that came with my original computer back in 2000. It has two "select" buttons (- +) and two "adjust" buttons (- +) with a row of icons (showing which parameter you're adjusting) with lights underneath on the left. I know that the "sun" icon is brightness and the "half moon" icon is contrast, but I don't know what the rest are.

After selecting "brightness," I hit the adjust "+" button a couple of times and I expected to see a bar graph showing my adjustment, but there was nothing, so I left it alone. I don't want to screw up my monitor so I want to make sure that I'm doing this right. It says "recall" under the select and adjust buttons with "arrows" pointing to two buttons. I assume that you press these to go back to your default settings.

So, how do I go about doing this correctly? __________________

If your HP laptop has a dull screen, or if the screen is too bright to make out anything that's displayed, you may need to adjust the brightness to get your screen back the way you like it. You don't want to strain your eyes to see your screen, and the fix is really simple. It's about as easy as adjusting the brightness on a TV. You'll have your brightness set the way you want it in a few seconds.

1. Right-click on an empty space on the desktop and a drop-down menu will appear.
2. Click on "Properties." If the HP laptop uses Windows Vista, you'll click on "Personalize."
3. On the "Personalize appearance and sounds" screen, click on "Window Color and Appearance."
4. Click on the arrow beside "Show color mixer."
5. Use your mouse pointer to move the tab on the "Brightness" scale to the left or the right to adjust the brightness and click on "OK" when you're content with the color.

Hi, Don't put screen in direct sun light or bright light. Bright lights will destroy LCD screen. The LCD screen has some adjustments on back. You might be able to readjust picture brightness.
