Ice and water dispenser not working but light on constantly
My ice and water dispenser stopped working all of a sudden. No water or ice comes out. Ice is still being made - the tray is full and if you take some out by hand, the ice maker makes more. Funny part of this problem is that the dispenser light is now stuck on all the time. The front dispenser panel lights work - you can push the buttons and the little green light changes from water to ice to crushed etc.... but nothing comes out. Just prior to this event, there was an ice jam in the dispenser - lots of noise, but cubes wouldn't come out. I had to take them out by hand by opening the freezer door. After that the light is stuck on with no ice or water. Any ideas?
We have the SS Side by Side refrigerator but is the one where the refrigerator is larger on top and smaller on the bottom and the Freezer part is the opposite with the larger freezer area on the bottom and smaller on top, The dispenser light came on, no water, crushed or cubed ice, just quit. We have un plugged the refrigerator as suggested and the cup part does click but still nothing, like it is totally dead.
Re: ice and water dispenser not working but light on...
We had the same problem. When we removed the ice receptical the mechanism that turned the ice make was broken and it stopped the ice from being dispensed. I hope it is that simple for you!

This sounds like the water inlet valve has gone bad.. First before u replace it check to see that you have water coming to back of fridge as it could be restricted causing no water to reach the fridge.
There should be a plastice hinge cover on the left top hinge on freezer door. Take it off and press the plug together firmly. Try that and let me know, Sea Breeze
Cory, you sound like you have a bad water valve as well as a bad control board for your dispensor. If you've had any storms in your area in the past 4 - 6 weeks, it's very possible that the storm took both parts out.
We have parts for GE as well as mots other major brands, so please give us a call with your complete model number and we will get your parts out to you right away!
We hope this solves your problem and we look forward to being able to assist you with future issues.
most fridges stop dispensing water when you open the door. Find the door switch and make sure fridge interior light goes on/off when you manually press door switch. This would show you that the door switch was faulty.
If the water connection to the appliance is one of those watts flood-safe water lines, it may have stuck shut. I've seen this happen when the house water pressure is too high.
Does it still make ice?
If so, then the water connection is good, and either the switch in the water dispenser has failed or the water shutoff valve for the water dispenser has gone bad.
Some models have a problem with the water line getting frozen, such that simply leaving the light on in the water dispenser compartment overnight and/or manually defrosting the unit can get it working again.
check the water line fron filter that continues on to water dispfrom icemaker, also a bad water disp solenoid or no pwr to water valve disp solenoid could be a problem, when you try to disp water can you hear a click from the solenoid operating to let water out?
We had the same problem. Our frigerator is 1.5 year old. Everytime we try to dispence water or ice the dispencer clicks and the whole thing turns of. We had a GE repairman come by: the electronic board needs to be replaced: total cost $350. (cost of the board only: $150.
We are considering disconnecting the dispencer by unplugging the board (according to the repain man the ice maker wil still work)or buy a new refrigurator (for sure NO GE!!!!!!)
CM, there are 2 things that'd cause this. One is inexpensive, the other is not. First, check the cheap one... That rectangular rubber piece in back of your dispenser area is only a cover for a cantilever device. When you push in on this with a cup, the cantilever swivels back toward you and makes contact with a micro-switch. This switch sends power to the integrated circuit board which, in turn, performs the function you requested (cubed, crushed, water).
OK... unplug your fridge. Then use your ears to diagnose this. Push the actuator pad several times in and out and listen for the tell-tale "click click" of the micro-switch. If you hear it clicking, it's good. Plug your fridge back in.
Now for the expensive part. If your micro-switch clicks, your dispenser control board is fried and needs to be replaced. (I'm afraid that this is the case because the board controls the light as well as all the other functions.)
UNPLUG YOUR FRIDGE BEFORE REPAIRING!
To gain access the board, use a small flat blade screwdriver and remove the fascia panel starting at the bottom first. Just begin prying it gently off. Then remove the screws that are holding the board assy in place and gently pull it out. Take note of all of the wiring so you can re-install it correctly.
The board number you need is #61005274. Unfortunately, it lists for about $100. A professional repairman would charge you over $200 for the repair, so you're actually saving money here!
BTW, we recommend using a Belkin Surge protector for all appliances that utilize electronic controls. (you wouldn't plug you computer directly into a wall outlet, would you?) We regularly use these... http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/(a1q3xi45sxgfbzm0qejhei55)/ProductDetails.aspx?SKU=3115672
