Usually white screen problem is defective lcd unit. your local repair shop would charge $45 to 75 depend on what they want to charge.

Are you sure the lens is actually opening ? Next time you use it, examine the front of the lens to see if the lens cover has opened. If it has not, that is the reason. You may be able to get it repaired, but at a cost.
You could plug the card into your computer using a card reader and then right-click on it. Click on properties and it will give you the used and unused space.
Hi! It's most likely a damaged LCD cable which goes through the hinge - happens to many camcorders. You will have to contact your local Sanyo service center. I replace these cables for Sony camcorders every day.
Had the same problem. It nearly drove me mad, however, the fix seems quite simple. The screen in playback mode seemed to be fine but if I swithed to record or photo mode I just got a black screen. I could see some pixel movement so I figured the screen was okay and that the iris was the problem.
Anyway, to fix it I simply gave a few sharp taps on the camera body near the lens. This unstuck the iris and I was greeted with a clear image in the LCD viewfinder. The camera now works fine.
By the way, this seems to be a fairly common problem with a lot of the different models and not just limited to this one.
Try removing the battery and putting it back in again. This happens to mine. Also make sure that the SD card is fast enough. I.e. a 40x SD or more card or a class 6 SDHC card.
As I have been writing on other HD1/2 problems, sometimes it can be the card which is an issue. If the card is too slow or perhaps corrupted then the device can find it difficult to record.
This and other soft faults (that are reperable by turning the power on and off, changing or reinserting the card, removing the battery) are often indicated by a flashing red recording light.
If it plays back pre recorded tapes then there is nothing wrong with that section of the unit. Does it playback audio and not picture or does it not playback anything.
Also, when trying to playback a recording what is seen of the screen? Snow(black and white dots or wiggly picture?
The unit uses two separate circuits to record and playback tapes. Is any thing else connected to the unit while you are recording? If you are using anything plugged into other ports on the recorder it may not see the camera input causing it to not record anything..
