SOURCE: Olympus Stylus 770SW error message

After only 15 days mine did the same thing. I called the dealer Olympus and they gave me a RAN number and told me where to send it. I got a call about a week later. They said because the camera had moisture inside I was not coverd. The best they would do is mail me a rebate card for 25 dollars off my next purchase. I was like WTF. The woman said sorry but that was all they could do. When I asked to speak to manager she hung up.

SOURCE: Olympus Mju mini - lens

check out first if the battery is fully charged.and if the battery is very old.then prefer replacing the battery instead of charging.and if the battery is new, then the cover of the lens must be getting stuck up so try tapping the device from all the sides it will automatically get opened.also off the camera completely and try to move the lens door manually up and down.sometimes the gear assembly gets stucked and this makes it free to  move.

SOURCE: olympus 770 sw lens cover not closing

Your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, chances are that your batteries need to be replaced because they're just too worn to properly power the camera. And then, of course, there's the possibility that your camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

It's possible that your camera, being 7 years old, was never designed for a 2gb card. You can find cards of all sizes at amazon.com

The camera is off but there is still a picture on the screen

"Off" might mean the lens has retreated, but that doesn't always stop the power as you can tell. Some Olympus cameras have a view mode (look for a button and icon near your view window). You may have accidentally bumped it. Push it again and the picture should turn off. You'll probably see more than one choice -- read the button labels to determine which is the right one.

It wont turn on to take pictures, it wont boot up. but it will turn on when you want to review the pictures you took.

Hi,
I experienced the same symptoms, with the exception that the lens cover wasn't opening correctly (I'd boot up to review mode then try and enter shoot mode from there [by turning the dial] in order to see if it was a battery or circuit board issue). I was seeing that the lens cover wasn't closing the full way when the camera went to auto shut off after this procedure. The solution to my problem was as per the below Olympus link:
Lesson learnt: The lens cover motor workings need TLC and should be opened and closed whilst immersed in fresh water periodically to remove any debris, and that the camera is sensitive to issues with the auto lens cover.

Without opening the lens cover, press the quick view button then the OK button.  Scroll down to setup and press the right arrow.  Scroll down to the clock symbol and click the right arrow key.

OLYMPUS MJU CAMERA

Hi, I had the same problem and when I took my sliding lens cover off I released that the black level was broken.  Luckily I had an old olympus which had the same part which I glued on and now it works perfectly.  I would take the camera apart and take a picture for you but it was very hard to replace the case without breaking my repaired piece.  This is what the small black lever should look like.  (first one is from side, second is from top) It turns when the case it sided along which turns a lever inside and opens the lens.  As shown in the first picture, the small black vertical part is what was broken on mine.  Try moving the part with a screw driver from side to side to see if that opens the lens.     7ccb095.pngI hope this helps in some way.  Just ask me if you want any more help with the camera.  jameswalker3  :)

Lens will not come out of camera

There is a workaround for this problem, when the lens cover is open press down on the area of the lens cover on the "s" of Olympus. This can operate the switch that opens the lens etc. The long term fix is to remove the lens cover by removing the 2 screws at the base of the lens cover, take the lens cover off and gently clean around the switch which is behind the "s" of Olympus when the cover is on. I found that the grease/oil Olympus had used on the switch attracted dust etc and by cleaning this off the camera began working. Be careful when taking the lens cover off, there is also a very small metal plate that separates from the lens cover - don't lose it.
