This pictorial guide will help me explain,

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba_Satellite_M55/laptop_motherboard_1.htm

ALL power removed from the laptop. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.
Follow Anti-Static Precautions.

Place a towel, or suitable object on a table, then turn the laptop over, and place on the towel.
If you click on the photo in Step 2 you will see the Harddrive Compartment Cover.

Remove the Philips head screw.
Lift up on the side of the Harddrive Compartment Cover where the screw was.
Remove the cover, lay it aside.

The harddrive plugs into an interface in the Harddrive Compartment.
On the opposite end of the harddrive where it plugs into the interface, should be a single Philips head screw.
Remove the screw.

Use the fabric cloth to gently pull the harddrive away from the interface.
The harddrive may come back only so far, then the end is lifted up to remove the harddrive.
(End opposite of the back of the harddrive where it plugs into the interface)

Use caution as you can accidentally bend pins on the harddrive.

For additional questions, or to clarify what I have stated please post in a Comment.

Toshiba satellite m55-s3315 hard drive password reset

Yikes. I'm not calling you a thief, but 99% of the time when you encounter a computer with a password on the hard drive and the possessor of the computer does not know the password, the computer is stolen.

The hard drive died, can I install Western Digital Scorpio Hard Drive - 120GB - 5400rpm - Ultra ATA/100 (ATA-6) - IDE/EIDE - Internal (WD1200BEVE) to replace it

You should definitely try out if it fits inside the bay first.
The original drive in the M55-S135 has a height of 8mm and the WD1200BEVE is 9.3mm. This is not a big difference and may pose no problem, but you would like to have all covers close properly later, I assume.
Other than the slightly larger physical dimensions, the drive should be fully compatible with the laptop.

I need a hard drive for my Toshiba Satellite M55-s135. What should i buy and how do i buy it?

The type of drive you need is an IDE drive. You can buy a new a new drive online through places like www.tigerdirect.com or www.bestbuy.com or in a store such as Best Buy or even Office Depot.

Please make sure you buy a laptop IDE hard drive...all others will NOT work.

You can download any/all the Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers. Use this link :-

Can i upgrade my processor?on my toshiba satellite m55-s135 laptop? I am upgrading the ram from 512mb to 2gb and the hard drive to 200gb.

dont know what processor you have. If you have a celeron M you can probably upgrade to a pentium M without any problem. The ram you should check. I believe that motherboard will only support 1.5 gb. Any more you will be waisting your money.

Electrical problem with Toshiba Satellite M55-S135 PC

A tough one. Have you gotten an estimate for an independent computer repair place?  I don't think hard drives last all that long and  the monitors seem to have a high failer rate also. Unless you could get it done for a total of abotu $200 , I would not do it.  My thought only.

Toshiba Satellite M55-S135

for all problems like this start by simplifying - pull both ram chips out and try each one individually. Remove any accessories like the CD drive and hard drive and see if the machine does anything different.

If these basic steps dont help its probably an internal problem with the laptop and you would have to take it somewhere to disassembly and diagnose.

Good luck!
