For anyone else with this problem...I ended up getting a replacement transformer from ebay and swapping it out myself.
You have to remove the back panel of the TV, unplug the board from the harness going to it, unscrew the board (both via the set of screws going directly through the board and the set going through the plastic piece on the opposite side that, as far as I could tell, the board is glued to). This plastic piece (running the length of the board) has receptacles for the backlight bulbs, so be gentle getting it in and out. Don't forget the screw in the middle of the board.
De-soldering was a little tricky. My soldering skills are not great, so maybe it was me. But it certainly seemed to be a little challenging to get it all out. Having so many terminals probably didn't help (a capacitor would have been easier). Eventually though, I did get it out. Soldering in a new one was easy. Be sure to check continuity between the terminals of the new part and other parts of the board using the traces as a guide once you're done.
After that, simply re-install the board and put all hardware back in. Like I said before, be sure you re-engage the receptacles of all the backlight bulbs by pushing down at each notch on that plastic part of the board.
Hope this helps someone else...

Your TV has REV_B assembly, to replace with REV_A may not be good idea since they must have known about REV_A problem so they release REV_B which can used to replace old revision REV_A board.
Can you take good clear picture of the parts taht are burnt and post it or send it to me?
These are the links.

That is the burnt out inverter transformer, so the MOSFET's that drive the transformer is more likley to be damaged also.
This is power supply + backlight inverter all in one board.
That will be about $50 gamble but not too bad. I would try it.
Partstore also saying that B is the sub for A, so it means that that connectors and votages are the same.
I am having the exact same problem with my TV. Symptoms are the same, and I have the same burn mark the transformer. Can you tell me what you did to fix it? Did you use the -A board? Did you replace just that component? Thanks.

the lable: version SQ03 - so it has SQ03 panel and the TV has BN44-00264B board installed.
However one of the component was burn (burn spot on it). The links you suggested: "out of stock". I can find the BN44-00264A and they said it's interchangeable, even under your link to the "B" version - it lists substitude part: "A" version. So again, I just want 100% sure that I can replace the burn board - BN44-00264B with the new board BN44-00264A.
That is what I'm thinking too. However, Samsung support did not have answer and couple part vendors said that Samsung is shipping the "A" to replace the "B".
BTW: the problem with the LN40B550K1FXZA: smell a burning component ... then video off / on (repeating), but the audio was good. Before I call a repair shop, I opened the back and saw a burn component on the BN44-00264B board ...
I think so ... That was why I want to change the whole board, not just component. I could not find the BN44-00264B, and the part vendors told me that Samsung only ship out BN44-00264A and it's interchangeable with "B". But I'm still not too sure :-(
Couple part vendors that listed "A" board is replaceable for "B" board. I contacted Samsung twice and could not get to the right person to confirm it. (I think only authorized repair shops or part vendors can talk to a real tech). Not much choice, so I think I will get the "A" board for replacement.
What do you think ?
and thanks for your helps.
