This is possibly an issue with the software the gps uses to work. You could try doing a Firmware update by connecting it to a computer and going to the Magellan website to access the update.
It sounds like the maximum number of GPX file types your GPS can manage is 1,000. You'll need to delete as many existing GPX files as there are new that you want to add, ie: If you want to add 150 new waypoints (a.k.a. Geocaches a.k.a. GPX files) you'll should delete 151 (or more) GPX files from the GPS. That way, you'll have 999 GPX files loaded - and won't see the message complaining of 1,000 GPX files. Running with a minimal number of GPX files may allow your device to run faster - as it doesn't need to load and calculate distances for 1,000 GPX file points. Less can be more - if you don't do CITO, Webcam, Multis, etc. or any type that has a difficulty / terrain ratings greater than 2 or 3, don't even download them. It's just clutter for your GPS to track and manage. Look at the filters to select the types you want - either on Geocaching.com or the software (GSAK?) you use assemble and prepare for loading them into your GPS.
The Explorist GC is made by Magellan. You may want to contact Magellan support for assistance. http://support.magellangps.com/support/index.php?group=default&languageid=1
I had the same problem. Was able to fix it as follows:
1. Turn unit off (pull battery if on/off won't respond)
2. Plug unit into PC with USB cable
3. Hold the menu key and the joystick in the "up" position and power unit on. Make sure you H O L D all three buttons as described until unit is fully powered on.
4. This should allow the unit to go into maintenance/disk access mode. Go to the Magellan website and download the newer version of the system (ver 1.4 as of this post).
5. Follow the install directions.
After doing this, my unit came back on just fine. From what I've read, ver 1.0 of the system has some issues.
well i'm a great geocacher and i love to help people with the GPS'rs so you found the guy :)))) It may not be the easiest approach, but you could create a custom POI file for your Geocache locations and then load them into your c330 using POI Loader.
If you're a premium member on Geocaching.com, it's my understanding that you can download locations in GPX format. POI Loader is supposed to read GPX files, but I haven't tried it with geocache locations yet.
Do you have a geocaching account that can download GPX files?
Someone told me that you can use Long/Lat with Google Earth, and you can save Google Earth POI's in GARMIN .cvs format, to use in the PIO Loader.
I solved this problem by gonig to the secret menu by holding the nav + power. I entered the value # 95 in the menu. This will let you format the memory area in the unit then I down loaded the latest firmware update from magellan.com and installed it on the
unit.I had already made a copy of the files on the unit in my hard drive so i copied the files back to my unit so that i did not loose anything important like poi's and geocaches etc...
PS when I did the firmware up date the base map must have been restored.
I had this problem also with my 500. I worked around it by putting numbers only in the first column and naming in the next column I think. I do not have the program in front of me but work with that. I will double check later if you still have prob.
