You can find out what year a Bobcat is by contacting a Bobcat representative. Firstly, locate the Bobcat serial number - usually in the owner's manual or inside the door - and then phone up Bobcat.
Once you provide the representative with the serial number, they will be able to tell you exactly what year and model the Bobcat is.

Ed,
Near as I can tell, it's a 1979. As of 1980, Johnson/Evinrude used two LETTERS at the end of the model number to designate the year. (See attached) Your model number ends in a number and letter (1A) which leads me to believe it's earlier than 1980. Prior to 1980, the last two numbers of the serial number were the year. That's how I surmised yours is a 1979, by the last two of the serial. G02651879
The serial number alone is not enough to determine the year unless you also include the maker and the model number. Even then it may not be possible, but without that information there is not enough criteria to figure it out.
For example, if the tractor was made by Sears then you probably could narrow down the year based upon the years of production of that particular model at Sears.
Sometimes the year is embedded in the serial number, but the algorithm for determining that is based upon the maker and the model...there is no universal serial number to model year conversion... And in some cases the serial number has nothing to do with the model year... It literally can be a randomized number that's ensured/verified to be unique... However in that case the company may have a database that they can look it up and tell you.
my recommendation is to call the company that manufactured it and give them the model number and the serial number and they will probably be able to tell you... If they can't, chances are there is no easy way to figure it out.
Go to the Troy Built web site, find the contact phone number, call them and tell them what you want to know. Give them the serial #, and they may want to know the model also. They should be able to tell you what year it was made. Hope this helps. I will Actually see if I can find out the info for you. I will be right back. Sara I just talked to troy built, this is not the serial # this is a model number if you can check again for the complete serial# I can get you the year your tiller was made.
