I have a 1992 GMC Jimmy and I was pulling about a 2000 pound load and I went into a wet spot in a yard and was stuck and I had done a lot of spinning and finally got out after about 5 minutes of being stuck and all of a sudden my truck started to make a squeaking noise and i stopped driving it and that noise is now a squeaking and knocking noise... what could that possibly be?

The noise seems to be coming from my engine

If this sqeaking noise is more like a screaching noise and you reved the engine pretty high trying to get out, then you spun a bearing.

Yep , It's time for a rebuild or engine swap. The good thing is that these engines are plentiful. They put them in everything. You can probably pick one up for $300 to$400.

thanks. i have one more question also.. i was planing on buying a 1995 v6 camaro and i want to know what would i have to go through to put a 1995 firebird v8 engine in it and would it be expensive

  • Randy Ohler Jun 10, 2011

Since this is alll computer controlled you would have to get the computer for the V8, also the entire wiring harness Inside and out. You might get the materials at a decent price, but the work and time to do it , is alot, I mean really alot. Look in to it before you buy. But there are short cuts that take the time away, but they cost alot of money. $1000.00+

so what would be the best and cheapest way to put a v8 inside it

  • Randy Ohler Jun 11, 2011

Your best bet is to get an older engine and transmission, late 70's early 80's. these don't have the computer control and your car will have most of the wiring to hook them up. There will be few modifications to do. With the 95 V8 you need the entire engine compartment harness and the ecm. If the ecm is in the cabin of the car, then you will need the entire harness from there also. the transmissions should work out .The wiring is going to be more than half the time it takes to get the car ready. you will need a good electrical schematic, probably for both engine sizes. This would be the cheapest route

You remove the cluster and take it in to your local GM dealership. They will send it off and get it repaired. Usually takes a week to a week and a half.

WHAT ARE THE TORQUE SPECS FOR A CRUSH SLEEVE ON A 2000 GMC JIMMY

There is no spec for that. the sleeve must be compressed until you have the correct pinion bearing preload. The pinion must take 3-5 inch pounds of torque to spin it.

Can i drive my 1992 gmc jimmy without the front differentical? And if not where can i buy one for cheap?

Yes you can drive without front differential. Easy way to do so is just dissconnect your front cv axles. Just make sure you dont throw that car into 4 wheel drive.

1994 Jimmy - Rear brakes are dominating after brake job

You need to bleed the whole system. Once this is done it should work better. Make sure you are not low on brake fluid. If the front brakes are disk brakes and the rear are drum breaks, the front really does most of the stopping, the back jjust keeps the car from spinning or swaying. But the main stopping power is in the front breaks. They need to be bled correctly, make sure brake fluid is up and make sure emergency break is not engaged. The emergency break uses a lever and cable to activate the rear brakes. The emergency breaks don't run off brake fluid...

please give good ratings, they are very important...
