Depending on your version number, listed at the back, some are hardware, and some are software. If you have an original fat PS3, it will be shown with the memory card slots, under a liftable panel, and also the 4 usb slots on the front. Much like mine. There are some limits about which games play ps2 games, but all ps2 and ps3's play ps1 games, but just remember that ps2 can only save ps1 gamesaves if you have an ORIGINAL PS1 savegame cartridge(memory) in the memory slot.

Hello, unfortunately most PlayStation 3s are not backwards-compatible. The 60GB PlayStation console is but it is very expensive as they are very limited edition.
