Recently bought a 2004 Husqvarna LTH1842 Riding Mower.. It had been used for one season & stored since. I mowed a half an acre, ran great. This morning I ran it for 10 minutes & it puttered out. I replaced all fuel lines, filter, spark plug, gas was new). Restarted briefly & again, puttered out. I checked for fuel flow from the fuel pump, there was none so I replaced that as well. Still didn't start. Tried starter fluid, engine kicked but still will not start. What next? Could the 'O' ring on the oil cap be a factor dimenishing air to the pump?

The problem is in the transition to Ethanol gas around 20045/6.. Pre 2005 fuel lines & gaskets deteriorate readily in alcohol fuel, particularly if left sitting. Same is true for all vehicles, pre 2005. Solution, replace all rubber fuel lines, gaskets & most likely, fuel pump with post 2005 lines & gaskets... anything deteriorateable exposed to ethanol fuel.

Hi, I would check the pump out. Air maybe getting in pump. You should get a rebuild kit for pump.
Gasket(s).need to be replaced. cracked or ripped. Hope that works for you.

I replaced the fuel pump when replacing all fuel line parts. This type of pump is disc driven run by air flow, common to many Riding Mowers in the JD, Huski families. They are self contained & not rebuildable in any event. Priming to the carb didn't help either so I will next try starting fluid to begin the prime cycle but doubtful. Thanks, though.

Thanks for replying; I would be careful using starting fluid. it can blow up the motor.
I have heard that this can happen.
Check for a weak spark in ignition system. Repace if nesscesary (crank sensor)
And when you have flywheel off replace ( key ). The key may be bent on shaft this could be why hard to start. Good luck.

Black smoke is generally indicative of a rich fuel system. whitish blue smoke is generally burning oil.
It sounds like there is something wrong with the fuel metering at full throttle. You might check that the mechanical compression release isn't coming on when you go to full throttle.

Need a new lawn mower! what would you buy? and why... thanks, jana I'm over and under whelmed depending on the marketing or consumer reviews I'm reading.

Well I do now know if you want a riding mower and how much yard you are mowing. If you are mowing 1 acre or more and the land is fairly level I would recommend a Dixon or Bad Boy ZTR mower. The Bad Boy sells for $4,999 at Tractor Supply and is a well built heavy duty mower. The Dixon will be slightly cheaper and it also a quality mower. The Cub Cadet & Husqvarna are cheaply built mowers that sell for less but are not dependable. You get what you pay for. If you are looking for a push mower then the Cub Cadet is a decent mower for the price and the Honda is a top notch quality mower that sells for much more.

Cutting size question

* f your yard is up to an acre in size, the ideal cutting width is 30-42" (76-106cm). To avoid being underpowered, or putting too much strain on the engine, make sure your mower or tractor offers a minimum 14 horsepower. Riding mowers are the most commonly purchased for lawns this size. * For a yard that is between one and three acres, you’ll reduce your mowing time with a cutting width of 42-46" (106-116cm) and a strong engine up to 16 HP. Typically people purchase lawn tractors for yards of this size. * If you’re mowing more than three acres, you’ll need to look at the garden tractors, with cutting widths up to 54" (137cm) and at least an 18 HP engine, preferably bigger.
