I have a Hp PL4245N Plasma TV that is having a problem when it is powered on. If the tv is unplugged for over an hour and then it is plugged in and turned on. First i press the the power switch in the back of the unit. I have the back off the TV and when it is powered on the green lights turn on the back of the unit then two go ff and one stays on. There are no red lights that turn on. I then go to the front of the unit and press the power button. At this point the TV will turn on and the HP logo will show it will display a picture for a few seconds the the screen goes out. there is no picture showing. At this point the TV will not turn back on. I am needing to know how to test and what I am testing for to fix this issue.

Hello
I thinks you may be right. All plasma and LCD panel tVs will have cooling fans at the top side. Plasma screens will heat up much more, and if cooling fans stops work, of has damaged, the set will overheat, and awill automatically shut down; because there is a overheat sensor fitted inside it, will sense the heat, and if the set overheats, it will send a signal to the main system control fo the TV; which in turn shut down the whole system. look fans for proper working. If not replace them. OK.

42 in magnavox plasma tv has sound with no picture I unplugged tv and waited 10 minutes with no luck

Hi my name is Roety,
I can help you with your issue ,
If you have no TV menu either check for any swollen capacitors on the power supply.
If none are found measuring voltages will localize the defective board or boards the voltage test points are marked VA and VS on the panel and boards.
If disconnecting boards restores these voltages the suspected boards must be replaced .
Tech labor is about $250 plus parts.
Suspected boards
power supply
Y sus main & Y buffers
Logic board
mainboard

HP MD5880n TV Screen flashing

If the TV goes in standby, then it is in protection mode.

Ensure also that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem on DVD with no receiver box
connected.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the TV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

LCD/Plasma Electronic Replacement Parts: Plasma & LCD TVs, Appliances |

On LCD Pay particular attention at inverter and power board, power board can be inspected looking for bulged or leaking capacitors, then tested with a multimeter. The inverter is more difficult to test , there is need to read voltages, should be done by a tech. Also the LCD controller board can cause same problem

On Plasma, test Sustain (Ysus/Zsus) / Buffer boards , cables to plasma, digital board and power board.

On Rear Projection : check lamp, lamp ballast, power board, and convergence.

On CRT TVs, check ballast , flyback transformer, CRT, Tuner, Convergence.
