Every TV has different names for the menu selections but it will be in an area like "access" or in "set up" and then to a category like "language options" . On your remote you will press "menu" to get to the help screen. Next, scroll to whatever makes sense. Could be "display options" as well. If you can tell me what your menu selections are I can get you a lot closer but this should get you in the right direction. The most frustrating part is getting out of the menu. Either use 'exit" or use the key that has an arrowed circle for "return to previous screen".

How do I turn the subtitles off for the yamaha HTR-5730 AV receiver? When I hook the cable up directly to the TV, there are no subtitles, but when the video output goes through the receiver, subtitles

The receiver manual may list it under "CC" (closed captions) instead of subtitles. Also, don't just check your AV receiver; try checking the setup menu on your TV, and look at the TV remote. See if there's a CC setting that may be turned on, either through the TV setup (probably under the "Display" or "Video" tab) or because you've accidentally pushed the CC (or Subtitles) button on the TV remote.

I have a Magnavox VCR, which I recently opened up and cleaned. Now the movies show subtitles, although they don't on another VCR. Do you know how to remove the subtitles?

Check your menu key. There may be a screen format that expands to the point, that you may see things you don't have on an older TV. Hope this helps, thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Linhdang2918i dont know what to press to turn on english subtitles with my logitech harmony 600

Hi.

Controlling subtitles with the Logitec Harmony Remote Control is exactly the same as controlling any other action. You just need to set up the Harmony to send the correct command/s, as follows..

- First it depends what 'Device' (AV component) puts the subtitles onto the screen, so you need to check the instructions for that device.
e.g. if that device is a TV, then check the TV's original instructions to find out what menu item is involved, or what button sets the English subtitles.

- Next, if the example above applies, look through the Harmony 600's Device page for the TV and see if you can identify the corresponding control buttons. If they are not present already, then teach the commands to the 600's 'Device' buttons for the TV, using the TV's original remote.

- Finally look in the Activities 'Customize Buttons' page to make sure that some buttons are configured to send the commands you need. If they aren't, or if they are not available, then program those instructions into the 'additional commands' for the relevant Activity/Activities.

If several button presses are needed then you could possibly even 'Add a Sequence', in the relevant 'Activity/s' page/s to do the job, and call it something like 'EsubSeq'

I need sub titles

Greetings - Subtitles are not a function of the TV but are provided by the media your watching (if the source has subtitles at all). They come from either the TV broadcast, DVD or whatever other video source you watch.

Are you sure you don't mean Closed Captioning (CC) instead?

You will need to do a hard reset on the TV. Unplug the TV for 5 hours. This should clear any sofe codes set on the TV. Then plug it back in and turn it on. This should work.
