I have a stackable washer/dryer gas maytag. Purchased around 17 years ago. The dryer is not drying clothes. Gas is powered fine and it is heating up. The cycle seems shorter than normal

Hello,
The problem with it not drying is most likely going to be a worn out blower wheel thats slipping and not moving the warm air through the clothes to dry them properly. Always a pretty good sign the blower is slipping is,if you hear a rumble noise from the dryer at start up and also that same rumbling noise when the power stops. So if you hear it at start up...wait 30 seconds and open the door and listen for the rumble noise as drum stops. also you can check where the vent exits the house and see if their is air flow when the dryer is running.

Taking 2 to 3 hours to dry a load of clothes...checked dryer vent from dryer to outside and it is not clogged.. what can the problem be?

Are the clothes hot when you take them out? If not, then maybe your heating element is broken. Easy to replace that, just pick one up from a parts store.

Our dryer started to take a long time to dry clothes but the heating element was working. We opened it up to check for lint and so on, and it turned out that the drum had slipped slightly out of location and the back of the dryer was partially obstructing the duct. That was probably what was making the dryer squeak, too. We reseated the drum easily in a few seconds and now it dries well again.

When we turn on our Whirlpool Supreme electric dryer, it heats up and dries clothes, but it is making a loud squeaking noise throughout the cycle...sometimes louder than others.

The squeaking noise can be caused by any of the following.

Location High:

Belt slipping on the dryer drum

Worn Drum seals but would sound more like a dragging noise

Location Low:

Belt tensioner pulley bearing frozen and the idler pulley shaft is spinning inside the belt tensioner assy.

Belt slipping on the motor bearing

Motor bearing is dry

Thanks for using FixYa!

Fisher Paykel Elec. Dryer

Usually the belt is a single piece that wraps around the entire drum. The fact that you smelled something and that you feel the clothes are not being tossed tells me that the belt was slipping on the pulley of the motor that drives the drum. This will heat up the belt causing the smell. If the belt gets too loose, this will happen. I'd replace the belt, and I think you'll be back in action.

Let me know what happens. Please rate accordingly.
