everytime I try to get my router up it says it cannot detect the internet

  • hagentx Oct 05, 2008

This really seems like my computer has been hijacked. I get the same message and switching the home page to something different, like www.yahoo.com doesn't work.

The ask. askredir doesn't even go to a real page, so it makes IE impossible to get into. It doesn't even allow you to escape from your home page (which now doesn't work)

Since my spy programs don't fix it, I can't download a better spyware or hijack program from the internet.

    Help!

Hmmm, reset your home page to something like google.com or yahoo.com. Then try again.

Are you trying to set up the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Netgear wifi router

1) does it lock up completely or will it work hard lined when wifi fails?
2) do all devices wireless fail or just a single device?
3) do you lose connection to the wireless completely or keep the connection but lose access to the internet? (confusing but very different to me)

in the end you could narrow down the problem but if you have already reset to factory defaults and set back up again and again then it may be time to retire that old router.

How to program to my new enternet connection

HEllo bro...

I don't know what model that use, however here the best explanation for you..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Preparation:
1. Username and password for router.
2.Username and password for provider internet.
3.Ethernet cable (rj45 connection)
5. Pc /laptop to setup router ( on step i'm referred to pc)
4. Web browser( more preferred to using internet explorer current version)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step:
1. Plug Ethernet cable to router
2. Plug another end Ethernet cable to pcthat you are using to setup
(Now you have cable was connected between pc and router)
3.Switch on the router.
4.Open web browser. Or click here http://192.168.1.1
5.Some window will popup
6.Enter the username and password for router. If default( mean you don't change username or password, you can leave blank for username and fill password with "admin")
If still can't enter try search at google with your model and brand for username and password default.
7.After success enter, then using the wizard .
8. Fill the username and password for provider.
9.FInish.
-----------------------------------
For step 7th, to 9th, you can directly go setup internet connection( depend to model, sometimes it just type setup) where you will find ppp username and ppp password.. change it..
Good luck and be careful. sometimes you make it right but router need time to create new connection..

During my linksys install, the software validates my connection and fails everytime. I do not have an adapter on the computer I am installing the software on. This PC has direct cable connection to...

You need to have the router connected directly to the computer to do this setup. If you are directly connected to the internet you cannot communicate with the router and most everything will fail. Remember to set wireless security on the router, give a ssytem name and consider setting channels to 11 or so to not compete with wireless home phones.

Connection

try to do a power cycle. turn off everything. then turn on the modem first the the router (if you're using one) then the computers.
check if the cables are properly connected, try to use another cable for hardwired computers. for wireless computers, make sure that it's connecting to the correct wireless network and you are using the correct wireless password (wpa/wep)
if you want to check your wireless settings, just log in to your router's page by typing http://192.168.0.1 on the address bar of your web browser. by default the username is admin and there's no password. you will be prompted by the router's page, go to the wireless section and check the router settings are the same with what the wireless computers are using

hope this'll help you but if you still have a problem, just give me your network setup (i.e. brand of the modem, router, number of computers and if PCs are hardwired or wireless)
