I had a look and it looks like a regular mini usb cable that you need to connect to your laptop, or a regular mini firewire cable, both are available online for under $10 or at a local electronics store

Hi there, i have a Panasonic NV-GS15 . just need to know if it is at all possible to copy from the Camcorder Video tape to your pc. So that a DVD can be made?

You will need a firewire cable (IEEE 1934) to connect your camcorder to you pc. Before you purchase the cable you should first check you pc for the proper connections. The firewire IEEE 1934 is available in 4 pin or six pin connection types (not the typical usb). If your computer is not compatible, you should be able to pick up a fire wire adapter at your local electronics retailer (I purchased a pc card style for my laptop, recently, from Best Buy for approx. $10.00) You will also need software to edit the video (many are available for free download, online)

I dnt hav usb cable for my handy cam DCR-HC52E ...

Product Summary
4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.

You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.

This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook)
NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.

I want to watch video from my camcorder on pc. My camcorder has a 4 pin ieee firewire port. How many pins does the compaq presario sr1420nx have for its ieee firewire port? Should I use 800mps cables

You are on the right track. The best way to hook your computer to your camcorder is the firewire connection. There are 4 pins on the small connection on your cam, but on the PC the firewire connection is bigger and has six pins on that end. You should get the best cable that you have access to, because speed is everything when you are dealing with video, I would get the 800mps. Just make sure to check your connections on the PC and the Cam to make sure you get the right cable.

Panasonic usb?

The camera end of the cord should be a "standard" plug same as fits some/most digital still cameras and at least some cell phones.

If your camera is like my SDR-H200, you have to remove the battery and run the camera with the AC adapter, and the USB cord goes into a little trapezoid-shaped hole in the lower-rear part of where the battery was.

MY IEEE 1394 port does not recognise camcoder

Although this post is rather old, I can tell you that the mini 4-pin firewire port is the bane of my existence. The 6-pin port is made rather sturdy with heavily shielded cable. The 4-pin uses the same heavy cable, but does not have the strength to support the cable, if it happens to droop. This causes pins to get slightly bent out of alignment, and upon re-insertion, you can get crushed pins if you are not VERY careful. Examine both your cable end and the port on your camera/deck - you will probably find one or more of the pins have been pushed back. Pray that it's the cable that's dead, and not the port in your camera/deck. I have a Canon XL1 and a Sony DSR-40 with the same problem - crushed pin in the unit's port. I'll have to spend $$$ to get these ports replaced.
