How do i fix the 2 IC's blown inside
Try taking your memory card out before trying to switch on and see if it boots from its internal stuff
there is also the fairly well hidden reset button - make sure you know where it is before sticking paper clips in it though!
Try resetting it by inserting a small pin or paper clip through the reset hole ( look underneath the tomtom ). if it wont reset then it's likely 2 IC's have blown inside ... U24 and U25.
The 2 IC's are tiny . Any repair has to be conducted by someone who has experience of this sort of thing and also has the correct tools. Normal soldering methods will not work as the IC's are extremely small and the 10 pins on them are very very small and very very close together. If a normal electronics engineers were to try and replace these IC's it's likely they would make things worse. Also just removing the damaged IC's is very delicate and if great care isn't taken then damage can result to the circuit board making any repair impossible. My advice is let someone take a look who is a known repairer of TomToms.
Take a look here to see a board out of a TomTom , and see the IC's and look at the pins and see how tiny and close together they are . For reference , the hole you see in the circuit board with a gold band round it, takes a 2mm screw so you can guage the size of the IC's . Click this >>>>>>>>

Same problem except on the GO 300. Where can I find the IC's and can you give instructions on how to dis-assemble the unit for replacement?
I have the same problem on my GO 300. Can anyone identify the IC's I need, Where to find them, and how to disassemble the unit for replacement? I've searched all over Tom Tom support net, and they just don't offer any info or help on this issue ( That I was able to find). Any info is appreciated.
