Go to the device manager on your computer, and look at the Audio devices, and see if there is a yellow(!) next to anything, if not right click on the audio device, and select uninstall, say yes to all the prompts that follow, then reboot. When then computer boots back up it should show a found new hardware wizard, follow all of the on screen instructions and this should fix your problem.

Sounds like a sound driver problem. Try reinstalling it. http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles%5CDriver/Audio/Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.5334_Vistax86.zip?acerid=633638101583789935
Hi there Is there any audio at all? for example the log on sound, have a look at the bottom right side of the screen, click on the speaker icon and see if its muted or the volume is turned down. If it says no audio device found the audio drivers are not installed.
Often sound devices are linked to the modem, with almost everyone using dsl these days they sometimes don't notice the modem hasn't installed correctly.
Go to Device Manager and update or uninstall your modem. If you uninstall the modem just do a restart and Windows will "detect new hardware" just let it reinstall the modem.
Hopefully after installing the modem Windows will suddenly find more new hardware and suddenly want to install a "media deivce" that is your soundcard, I have seen this many times back in the day of the dialup modem.
I tried that. It says it can't find the hardware. Thats why i needed to know if i could download the driver or whatever i need so i can have sound again.
