I havea Panasonic pt50lc13 tv, I replace the lamp and the tv still did not work. Called a repair tech. He says the ballast needs replacin - cost about $500. My research indicates a repair kit can be purchased for about $20 but you need solderin experience to install the components. There is a person on E-Bay that will refurbish the board but you have to send the board. I have followed the instructions toexpose the ballast board but can't see that it can be removed without disturbing some soldered connections and fragile looking connections. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Ballast problem on PT-40LC12

Panasonic makes a Ballast Repair Kit LSUC0022 for the PT-50LC13 for around $20, to correct the same problem with that model.

I wonder if Panasonic has a Ballast Repair kit for the PT-40LC12, or if the LSUC0022 would work with the PT-40LC12?

Anyone know?

SOURCE: My Panasonic PT-52LCX66 popped and cracked

His prices sound a little steep. Most ballast boards un $100-$200 Labor and service call should be $250-300. If you are bringing the TV to him, it should be less. Check with Panasonic for an authorized servicer in your area for a quote and maybe a little help with the cost of repairs. Sometimes, the manufacturer will agree to cover the part cost or more, so call them!

SOURCE: I have a pt50lc13 panasonic that would not turn

I'm not sure if this is the professional way:) -- but when my pansonic 1080i was acting up just like that - I placed a small fan at the back of the right side of the TV unit and faced it towards the TV air vents and voila the TV stays on and stays cooler. No more blinking lights. I don't think the cooling fan that draws the air out of the TV was working and the TV was overheating. Saved me some money in repairs and after a year it is still working well. A quick and cheap fix - but it worked. Jeanne

Panasonic PT50LC13 TV problem turning on TV

This is a model that was subject to a massive recall and all were supposed to have been exchanged.

Main issue was it ate lamps alive---problem was in the Ballast the set uses to drive the lamp---when they ran out of Ballasts they devised a kit to fix them--too little and too late as the class action suit was well under way.

I know as our shop was involved in picking them up working or not and delivering a brand new set---Panasonic told us they wanted (they had to) the old sets back (crusher bound) but we could take anything we wanted out of them----had over 100 remotes before it finished not to mention other things.

I do not think it is a reset issue--most likely if you owned the set from new or a long time the Ballast may not have been rebuilt or you just got lucky.

Lamps (Good oem ones) should last on average 2 years or 2,000 hours.

Another possible cause (remotely possible) is puffed up caps on the power board--I post two photos so if you look there you will know what to look for---one is mild and the other an extreme example of bad caps.

Also if the set is dusty inside use air and clean it completely out as if fans run slow from dirt the set may have issues coming on.

I hope this information helps in some way.

Our TV just turned off tonight. The power light flashes green, but never turns on. After a few seconds, it flashes red. We replaced the lamp last month.

This model (pt50lc13) was subject and part of a massive recall by Panasonic and the main problem was the Ballast which powers the lamp had repeated failures where it destroyed the lamp over and over again.

If lamp bad again (should have a warranty on that from where you bought it) the ballast should be dealt with---there is a kit for this but not for a novice at this kind of repair.

Need to replace bulb in lcd panasonic

After lamp replacement, make sure that lamp cover is properly fixed on its location and if TV still does not turn On then it is ballast power supply issue, qualified TV tech will fix it.
If you think you can repair ballast supply and have enough knowledge about TV repair, let me know to provide you technical info about that.

Panasonic PT50LC14 Power issue

We have a PT-50LC14. We replaced the lamp 6 months ago with a TY-LA1000 bulb we bought from a company online (not directly from Panasonic) and it worked for 6 months. Then the TV started turning off on it's own...sometimes it would not come back on for an hour or so. We called the lamp company and we luckily had 1 day left on our 6 month warranty!! They sent us a replacement bulb and the TV would never power on. It would try to power up, but the bulb would never ignite. The power light would flash and then the lamp light would flash every 5 seconds. I had a friend that has the same type of TV and she ordered her bulb directly from Panasonic. I borrowed her lamp and it powered right up. We then called the online company and they sent us yet another replacement bulb, and I tried it today and it works. It seems like these TVs are very particular about the type of bulb used. Next time, we will be ordering ours directly from Panasonic and just paying the extra $100. We have been without our big screen for 2 very long months! I had called a local tv repair shop, called Panasonic directly, and read through countless internet forums, and I thought we were going to have to replace the ballast or get a ballast repair kit and start messing with the circuit board.

From the info you gave, it does sound like the lamp is bad. The sound you hear is the ballast trying to ignite what used to be a lamp. The lamp is assessable throught a 6x6 cover usually in the rear of the set held on by usually two screws. After the cover is off ( with a flashlight ) locate the screws(2) that hold the lamp housing in, remove those and it should slide out. Make sure you unplug the set first and remember to reset the lamp timer witch is located in your owners booklet after your done with the set on.

TV won't turn on - just replaced lamp

I had this same problem. This (panasonic) set is sensitive to the type of bulb used. Don't use a remanufactured one, get a philips/osram or an OEM. If that is what you have, move on to the ballast. Replacing the ballast isn't easy, if you are electronically inclined, you can remove the back panel and the page size aluminum brace, it has two large square cut outs. The shiny silver box under that brace ( maybe 10" x 4") is the ballast. That is typically the next thing that goes out. The bad news is the cheapest I have ever been able to find a replacement was around $350. But again, if you have soldering skills, order a ballast repair kit from ebay ($30) and go to work. If you decide to do that, let me know and I'll email you photos and walk you through it. Once the ballast has been repaired, if it still has the problem, The power supply is bad. At that point take the bulb back out and sell it on ebay or send it back and use a LFH (large F****** hammer) and take out your aggression. Its not worth fixing. The powersupply board is more than the TV is worth. Most of the time this problem is fixed with the ballast. But its a CHORE to get to it and remove it to work on it. I'd be happy to help and I can send vids and pictures, depending on what you'd like to do.
Good Luck.

No picture and i replaced the bulb

Joe,
I've never heard of a color wheel costing that much even with labor included - I think I'd try to find another tech for his advice.. If you have trouble locating one try NESDA or let me know what city/state you're in and maybe I can help recommend someone.
That said, if the lamp is good the next logical thing to check is the ballast. If the ballast is not supplying voltage to the lamp then it clearly won't light. A ballast is not that expensive, similar to a ballast in a floresent light - only a bit more complex. In any event I would strongly suggest finding a real professional first we are out there...
