Printing 8 x 10 photos

When it's humid out it takes longer for the ink to dry. Especially for larger photos where a lot of ink is used. Also, lesser quality ink takes longer to dry. I would recommend using a dehumidifier in the room where you are printing the photos to dry out the air a bit and allow your ink to dry quicker.

Ink won't dry

If you are trying to print on normal transparent film then the ink will not dry, it needs to be special transparent file for inkjet printers.

Lines show up throughout print jobs

Your print heads most likely need to be cleaned.

When you don't use your ink carts for a while, when you get new ink carts that have been stored in warehouses for a number of months, or when you have refilled a slightly too dry ink cart, the print head nozzles on the bottom of the ink carts get clogged with dried ink. The printer head cleaner menu will not disolve the dried ink. Water will. Try this. Soak the bottom of the clogged ink cart in 1/2 inch of hot water for 15-30 minutes. Blot dry with clean paper towel(you should see the ink color on the towel). Retry.

hi!

yes ink can dry up.. big chance your ink have dried up, since you've installed them couple of months ago.. there's a possibility that the ink may have not dried up but the print head may clogged.. you can try running some maintenance like clean cartridge or print head test using Dell All inOne Solution center..
Hope this helps..

How do I clean the printer nozzles as it leaves streekes on printed pictures?

If the ink is smearing, it probably is not getting enough drying time. The ink drying time is a period of time inserted between pages to reduce the chance that a page will smear the one below it in the output tray. This time is factored into the time between when the first page finishes and when the next page finishes. Printing will pause temporarily if more time is needed. The time it takes for ink to dry varies greatly depending on paper type, printer driver settings, humidity, and temperature. In addition, the paper and print settings may affect the speed at which the ink can dry:
  • Transparencies require much longer drying times than other paper types.
  • Some store-branded photo papers do not allow ink to dry correctly because of the coatings used in their manufacture.
  • Printing in Best mode can increase the dry time.
Resolving the problem If the ink smears, increase the drying time. To increase the drying time in Windows, follow the steps below:
  1. When ready to print, click File , click Print .
  2. Depending on your driver version, click Properties , Settings , or Preferences and follow the steps below depending on the option.
    • For Properties or Settings , follow the steps below:
      1. Click the Advanced tab.
      2. In the Extra Dry Time section, move the slider toward More .
    • For Preferences , follow the steps below:
      1. Click the Basics tab.
      2. From the Basics tab, click Advanced Features .
      3. In the Extra Dry Time section, move the slider toward More .
  3. Try a sample print and see if the drying time needs to be increased more.
To increase the drying time for a Macintosh computer, follow the steps below:
  1. From the File/Print Menu , select Ink under the General tab.
  2. In the Dry Time section, move the slider toward More .
  3. Try a sample print and see if the drying time needs to be increased more.
Other steps that will reduce ink smearing If the ink still smears when printing, try some of the following suggestions:
  • Decrease the amount of time it takes for the ink to dry by decreasing the print quality to Normal or Fast mode.
  • Try printing on a different type of paper or on paper from another manufacturer. Paper formulas are different between manufacturers and may have a coating that causes the ink to be absorbed at different rates.
  • When printing large graphics or photos on plain paper in Best or Normal modes, improve the results by using heavier paper. Paper that is rated at 90 g/m2 (24 lb.) or higher will not curl or smear as easily as paper of a lighter weight.

CHANGED COLOR CARTRIDGE AS I HAVE MANY TIMES BEFORE. NOT WORKING. MESSAGE IS THAT THIS CARTRIDGE WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY. HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING - HELP PLEASE ! thanks

good day sir/ma'am, hi, the reason why the printed sends the mesaage "cartridge not installed correctly" mean that it cannot get ink from those cartridges due to dirt and dust, or the ink on the cradle dried out, you may need to clean the cradle, the part were it houses the ink cartridges, since dried ink is solluble to water, use warm water to clean the cartridge. you can remove the cradle or use a dipstick with cloth wrap around and dip it to the dried ink. If the dried ink has soften enough you can place again your cartridge and test print again, do this several times to get the ink flow again. Carefull not to moisten the electronics part of your printer. thats it.

Ink not dry when printing photographs

Download the proper drivers from hp.com - DON"T use standard Windows drivers.

When you have the proper drivers installed, you will find an "Advanced" tab in your "Printing Preferences" where you can set "Ink Volume" and "Dry Time".
Try using less ink and a longer dry time.

Also, make sure you're using photopaper that is designed for "INK JET PRINTERS".
(Laser Jet paper won't work).

Any photo that you print on glossy/semi-gloss paper will be wet as it emerges from the printer (especially ones requiring lots of ink).

You could manualy "catch" each one and set aside to dry, which should only take a minute or two.

Professional printers use a special drying powder and timed spray rig when printing on coated cover stock and glossy materials.
