My samsung galaxy tablet is only one week old and it has just frozen on me, so I can't turn the tablet off.

It appears your Galaxy is faulty and it will still be under warranty. I suggest you take it to the supplier to get it repaired or replaced under warranty.
If you try to repair it yourself, you will most likely void your warranty.

If your sure it was actually turned off in the case then it probably needs recharged. If recharging doesn't work then by all means take it back to the store and get it replaced as this is most certainly still under warranty.

First put the charger plug in the Tab, I just tried mine that was sitting on the desk, even though I held the power on button for a long time it would not start. I pluged the charger in so the red charging light is on Tried to start and it worked perfectly. i.e. the voltage level is very critical, if it is a fraction low it won't start.
