Thank You very much for your quick response to my request for advice. I have solved the problem by placeing 2 metal washers on the bottom hinge of the top freezer door. Now the door seems to close tightly, and the freezer is working fine. Thank you again. Housewife from southern New Jersey.

Freezer is not defrosting

1. Remove all of the food from inside the freezer and place it into the ice chest. Use more than one ice chest, if necessary. Cover the food with ice from a 10 lb. bag of ice. Alternatively, place all of the food from your freezer into the refrigerator compartment, packed tightly together.
2. Place one or two 10 lb. bags of ice into one or two large bowls inside the refrigerator compartment to keep the food chilled. Keep the door to the refrigerator tightly closed and avoid opening it during the freezer defrosting process.
3. Unplug the unit and leave the freezer door open.
4. Let the freezer defrost overnight or for at least eight hours.
5. Use the towels to wipe up the melted ice.
6. Plug in a hair dryer and direct it to the interior of the freezer to melt any remaining ice from the walls and door. Be sure to direct it into the vents of the freezer, too.
7. Wipe up any water from ice melted with the hair dryer from inside and around the freezer.
8. Plug the freezer back into the outlet, and return food still solidly frozen to the freezer compartment from the ice chest or refrigerator. Use any thawed foods within a day or two or discard.

My freezer door pops open everytime i shut my refrigerator door

Good day,
First, make sure the gasket including the bottom is clean, as well as the mating surface of the machine itself.
The machine itself should be checked for being level. Side to side, if it's a top freezer model, the hinge side cannot be lower than the other side.
As well, front to back it should be leveled but with a slight tilt to the rear to assist in closing.
If none of this helps, then the magnets in the gasket itself have gotten weak and the gasket needs replaced.

Notes: Heavier items keeped in the freezer door will help to a degree. Closing the door slower as well.

The reason this happens, is that with the main door open, then closed, a large volume of air is forced into the fresh food compartment. There are vents that are open between the freezer section and fresh food compartment. This large volume of air when closing the main door is compressed into a smaller area, causing the problem.

Left door open while cleaning out refrigerator and top unit shut off freezer is still on what should I do

The fresh food compartment is cooled by air being blown from the freezer compartment into the fresh food compartment.

There is a panel, or door if you will, that separates the freezer and fresh food compartments. The freezer temp control determines how much cold air is allowed to escape into the fresh food compartment by opening or closing this panel.

In your case, the door must be stuck all the way open, allowing all the cold air to be diverted into the fresh food compartment. The compressor cycle is controlled by the thermostat in the fresh food compartment and thus 'short cycles' because the fresh food compartment acheives normal temperature while the freezer is relativel warm.

If the panel is restricted from moving (stuck in the extreme open position, for example), the fresh food compartment will get VERY cold while the freezer will be warm.

Try thoroughly defrosting the refrigerator. Possibly an accumulation of ice is preventing the panel from moving and/or is diverting all the cold air from the freezer into the fresh food compartment. It's a free fix and may solve your problem altogether.

If that doesn't help, or helps only temporarily, you may have a problem with panel/door/flap itself or the linkage that connects it to the control mechanism. Unless you're skilled in appliance repair, checking and repairing these components will require the help of a service technician

Hope this was helpful. Good Luck.

Frigidaire FRT17G4BW9 doors not staying closed

Adjust the front legs of your refrigerator slightly to raise the refrigerator. and and store items on the freezer door shelves to add weight. This is a problem of pneumatics and a testament to how tight newer refrigerators are. When you close the large refrigerator door it compresses the air in the refrigerator compartment. Both compartments are connected by air passages and thus the pressure change is transferred to the freezer causing the freezer door to pop open.

Raising the front of the refrigerator a tiny bit will help both doors close from the 90 degree point, which is desirable. Adding weight to the shelf will just help the process.

An additional aid in self-closure will be to use vegetable oil on a paper towel to wipe down the hinge side face of both door seals. All these maneuvers should aid in causing the door to stay closed and re-close if it should open slightly. Good Luck

Side by side freezer door pops open

This is a problem inherent with lots of refrigerators. Side by side or top freezer. The rush of air pops the doors. You might want to adjust the pitch of the box by adjusting the front wheels to a higher level.

Sub-zero 500 series refrigerator door wont stay closed

If Your Refrigerator's Freezer Door Pops Open When You Close the Fresh Food Door... If a 'top-freezer' refrigerator's freezer door pops open when the larger fresh food door's closed, it's actually a good thing. That tells us the seals are in great shape, sealing well.
Some freezer door 'pop' is unavoidable bc the bottom door's so much larger than the top one and the hydraulic effect of compressing all that air kicks in. The two compartments share the same air via a duct between them, and that compressed air rushes up into the freezer compartment and can 'pop' the door.
To improve the situation, apply a few drops of oil (sewing machine oil or 'three in one' - NOT WD-40) to each freezer door hinge pin. (Even better: if you can, pull the doors and coat the hinge pins with petroleum jelly). This will help the freezer door swing back closed by itself. The freezer door usually stays ajar because it's binding a bit, and that's usually caused by it's swinging 'dry', with no lubrication.
It’s also a good idea to ‘kick’ the habit of letting the refrig door close hard.

Kenmore - over under

Adjust the feet to raise the front of the frige, which should be higher than the back. Therefore the weight of the door will keep it shut or at least cause it to shut itself if it pops open.
