I'm sorry for the difficulties you're experiencing in transferring images from the Camera to the computer. Unfortunately, the Camcorder does not have the USB interface to connect it to your new computer. However, it has the DV OUTPUT. I understand that your computer does not have the DV input to transfer the videos. In that case, you may purchase a DV capture card to resolve the issue.
The DV capture card is also known as firewire/1394/i.LINK capture card. The DV Capture card doesn't cost much. Please click hear to view few DV capture cards.
Please follow the steps to transfer video to a computer using an i.LINK connection (IEEE 1394/DV/direwire).
IMPORTANT: Video capture software and a compatible video capture card must be installed on the computer. Depending on the computer manufacturer, various video capture cards and software (Adobe Premiere, Roxio Video Wave, Microsoft Windows Movie Maker, etc.) may be available or already installed on your computer. If necessary, contact the manufacturer of your computer for further information.
NOTE: Many Sony VAIO computers are bundled with Sony DVgate Motion or DVgate Plus software for video capturing. Some VAIO computers also include Click To DVD software that will allow video capture to the computer hard drive or directly to a DVD.
i.LINK Cable.
i.LINK port.
NOTE: The computer i.LINK ports and capture cards may have either 4-pin or 6-pin connections. Sony digital camcorders use i.LINK ports with 4 pins. If your computer only has a 6-pin i.LINK port, then it will be necessary to use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.
Thanks for understanding. Please let me know for clarifications.
Hi, well it is a rather simple matter to stream the Video from the camera to a PC, then using any good Digital Video Recorder, record the data stream from the camera, to the PC, in a suitable format and CODEC, then one can do whatever one wishes.
You need a cable between the Camera and PC, usually either a Firewire or USB, you need a Driver installed on the PC, you need the DVR, software.
Alternatively, too,one can use a USB Video/Audio Input Dongle, and connect up via, the Component,. or Composite of SHVS formats and again use a DVR to record, basically set it all up, press "Play" on camera, and "Record" on the PC and it will record the streamed data again one can store in any Format wished, and also an CODEC.
below is a link for your user manual, in here it also shows you what and how to do what you want, below that is a copy of a service manual, for future reference should you have any problems later on.

OMG, sorry that sounds like martian to me!
I think I can recall can remember when I bought this we had the option to pay $200 more for the one that connected to a computer - I guess that might be the ds65 one on the manual???
I have a cord but the end of it is /__\ that shape and does not fit into any sockets in my new computer. It fits in my very old computer. I tried it and went to my computer and my digital camera was there but when I went to open it my brand dvc was not on the list to chose from. and there is now an error message saying somthing like please check camera settings
Thanks
