Smeg CR330SE fridge/freezer hi there fridge freezer has stopped cooling in both compartments. light still comes on in the fridge and the compresser at the back is very hot.... any ideas???

Hi...the same thing has happened to me. My Smeg Fab28 refrigerator compartment has stopped cooling. The freezer still works. There was a build up of ice on the back fridge wall, and the milk was freezing up, so I turned down the temp. After the ice melted, I heard a bang like a bunch of ice had dropped. I turned the temp back up but it steadily stopped cooling even more. I decided to defrost the freezer, and had the power off completely for about 5 hours. When I turned it back on, the freezer worked, but the fridge is not cooling AT ALL.

Did you fix the problem and if so, how?

There are 3 likely possibilties, either the compressor is heating up and tripping or if the compressor is working there is a leakage of gas, the third is there is slight moisture or jamming in coil, filter or pipes which is causing uneven cooling. Cheerio

Has the freezer been defrosted lately? Perhaps a buildup of ice will not let the refrigerator cool sufficiently. Try this and let me know how it works out for you. If it does not have a self defrosting cycle on it, it may take some time, just do not use a sharp object in the freezer as this could puncture the freon lines and that would render the unit useless.

no and somewhere in the directions it will say do not use sharp objects to remove ice. call a service man but probally will cost high dollar to fix. best thing to do is get another one unless you are in love with this one.

Probably be cheaper to get new one, it has probably had the compressor fail or a leak in the cooling system.

The drain is clogged and needs to be snaked out.

Your door switch is bad.  When doors are opened, the fan stops.  No cooling.  When it closes, fan starts.  Bulb is just an indicator of no power to unit...probably burned out contact in switch.

Most side by side and other models of refrigerator freezer combinations are of one basic design. The freezer section does the cooling for both compartments. The refrigerator section gets it cold air from the freezer compartment. Therefore check for frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment. If frost is present there you have a defrost problem and it is cutting off the air that cools the refrigerator section.

I think this problem may already be resolved in some manor because of the date of post. Posts should expire after an unreasonable time period.
