I have an rca hd52w59 projection tv. When I was watching it the other day the picture became distorted. Now when I turn it on, I have what looks like an upside down rainbow at the top of my screen. Bowing downward from right to left I have mulit colored lines and the picture is distorted. At the bottom of the screen the picture bows upward(arches up) and at the top of the screen the picture bows downward (arches down). What is going on?

Blowed Fuse on deflection board FL231. Deflection board is the bottom left hand side, and on the right handside of FBT flyback Transfomer is 3 Fuses in a Roll they will Look like Small brown rectrangler Caps But are Fuses it will be the Middle Fuse that is Bad.

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

I have two RCA HD52W59 TV's. I have had one for 3 years and one 4 years. The one I have had for 4 years is giving me the problem. Last week the tv turned off while watching it. It wouldnt come right back on. 10 minutes later we tried and it worked fine. the other night the kids were watching and it turned off and smelled like something burning. I tried turning it right back on and got no power at all. I tried to turn it on two days later and it made a buzzing noise and the green light went out. Never did get a picture, no powering up on the screen. Any ideas? Don't want to spend alot of money. Really loved the TV hope it isnt junk now. Better yet I hope the same thing doesnt happen to the other one I have.

Go to menu then setup see if convergence is listed If not you have a open Fuse FL231.

sound like one of your tubes went dead..

you need to test all cables then make shure it is not your tv.

This indicates a convergence problem..convergence power supply probally.. however ive seen 2 other cuicits cause this ..

ask your service depot about the service flash on the covergence connector,causes intermittant faults and deflection problems /

Sounds like the capacitor that goes bad just before the hIgh Voltage transformer goues bad. If i were you I would call an authorized RCA repair Shope and see if this is going to cause more damage to your set in the future.
