Whirlpool washer not spinning or draining

Last night, i started the water and left the lid up so that we could add to our wash after yard work. when i placed the garments in the tub, i noticed that the cycle had gone through the agitation process, but with the lid opened, wouldnt preceed into the draining. didnt think anything of it.. i restarted the cycle, and closed the lid. this morning, i went to put those clothes in the dryer, and noticed, it stoped in the same spot as last night with only doing the agitation... i have checked other cycles, and the macine will only agitate. it will not drain or spin on any cycle. is there any sort of reset switch?? thanks so much in advance for your help....

Whirlpool Ultimate Care Gold Series washing machine (model GSL9365EQ0) has the same problem exactly.

  • Anonymous Aug 28, 2008

My problem is IDENTICAL... will agitate fine... then just dies. No drain, no spin. I anticipate the problem is with whatever causes the machine to drain. What that is... no clue. Help!

The whirlpool machine won't drain or spin after the cycle has gone thru to agitate the clothes, I've adjusted the hoses to see if they were not high enough or above water level for the machine and I've tried other cycles and it still does the same thing, what else would cause it to not drain or spin and would it be a simple thing or something major to repair?

    Thanks, Anna

I had the same problem. I took the machine apart and found a broken motor coupler. This was a plastic part. I order the new part online that was made with metal not pastic. I put the machine back together, and it works fine.

The washer will agitate but not pump out (spin and drain). I tried all cycles and had the same results. We installed a new timer but it won't spin and drain.

cycle works normally. When lid is closed, agitator starts moving, but stops when the lid is opened and left up

ngfam 1 doesn't know his machine! you can fix it yourself. on the lid is a plastic piece that fits in a hole that activates the switch for the spin cycle. carefully use a pair of pliers to bend the lip of the lid so the plastic piece just about touches the outside edge of the hole. if this doesn't work, then you need to replace the switch that is mounted just below that hole. approximate cost of switch $36 to $45.

Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6700TW1 skips wash cycle and stops after 14 minutes to oL

oL is an Overload error. Try running a cycle empty.

If oL (overloaded) appears in display, the load too large. If an overload is detected, the washer will drain any water and detergent in the washer. Remove several items and add HE detergent. Close lid and press START/PAUSE.

Whirlpool W10240509A did not spin out all water. when i try to restart iti

mine just started doing this on the wash cycle then we have to turn it to drain and spin. Last night it filled with water and refused to do anything else so it said it was done, open the lid and still full of soap and water. Turn it to drain and press the start button and it does nothing, no lights come on. We bought it in 2012, before the washer we had was purchased in 2000, and we are still using the dryer from 2000.

Lid is not locking properly, washer sensor is overfilling, and the washer wont spin

Check door switch: If the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining. Release switch. Motor should stop. Press switch a second time. Washer should start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid switch is pressed, replace the switch. OR

Spin cycleis out, doesnt even hum....

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

If it neither drains nor spins, the first thing to check is the Lid Switch. This prevents the machine from draining and spinning if the lid is open.

I assume that you cannot hear the motor trying to turn.

Following is a Whirlpool installation and maintenance PDF on top load, direct drive washers. It has a description of how to by-pass the switch.

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, remove the two plastic clips from the console, remove the two screws under the clips, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part.

Whirpool Washer LSQ9500LQ0 Won't Spin or Drain

Your belt assessment sounds correct on the dryer problem.
If you can, restore the lid switch connections, and operate the switch during what should be spin. You should be able to hear a relay or solenoid clicking off and on with the switch.

Washer won't spin dry

Safety switch is not opening. When you leave lid up you are negating the safety switch which is activated by the door. Easy fix.
