Batteries type What type batteries does the camera use?

This is likely because:

1. You are using the wrong types of batteries (Alkaline, Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries are recommended for digital cameras) NOTE: don't mix different types.
2. The battery is out of charging cycles and won't retain charge. (Most rechargeable batteries can be charged only about 1000 times after which they won't hold charge)
3. The batteries aren't 'powerful' enough. (low quality rechargeable batteries with low capacity shouldn't be used on digital cameras, Always buy batteries specialized for cameras (from camera stores or studios))
4. The wrong battery type is selected in the camera's settings. (Most cameras let you select the type of battery you are using from it's settings. Browse through the settings and see if this is the problem)

I had that problem. The camera can distinguish between NiMH and Alcaline batteries. Your camera is probably set to the wrong type.
Put in fully charged NiMH batteries OR alcaline batteries, check which doesn't cause beeping. After switching on the camera search for the menu where you can change the battery type and change it to that type you want to use. Consult the manual if you cannot find the option, it's under the setup icon.

You didn't specify a camera model or battery type, so the response has to be general. If you're using rechargeable batteries, make sure that they are the type specified in your camera's manual. If the camera requires Ni-MH batteries and you've been using Ni-Cd, the batteries will run down quickly. Also, if using "standard" (non-chargeable) alkaline batteries, make sure that they are fresh, premium batteries, not store brand batteries.

I beleive your batteries are of incorrect type or you need to set the type of the battery through menu. My favorite batteries are from Wal-mart: Energizer rechargeable Ni-Mh 2450mAh, (15 min recharging time) they fit any type of camera without setting the battery type through menu. Some incorrect type of batteries often damage the CCD. Ni-Mh Energizer never damages the CCD (black screen), while regular (non-rechargeable) Energizers may damage CCD in Sony S700 or similar cameras.

Charge fully the batteries you have, to prevents the camera distinguish the type of batteries (maybe the camera senses the charge), turn on the camera and you will have access to the menu to set up the batteries type correctly, that´s all.
