When I plug the ADA745 speakers and subwoofer into my computer I get absolutely no sound from either of the four speakers nor the subwoofer. I have a newer HP desktop computer. Their is a sound card in the computer. Shouldn't the speakers and subwoofer just be plug and play?

I have the same exact speakers & subwoofer, but not getting any power to either one. Turns out all that was wrong was that the fuse on the subwoofer had blown. I purchased a new fuse at Radio Shack (4 for about $3), and then replaced the fuse (a T1A-250V). All working great now! By the way, when you buy the new fuse, make sure you get the 'Fast Acting' (not Slow acting) ones, 1 amp, 250V. The fuse is on the back of the subwoofer, use a flat-head screw driver to access. Hope this helps.

p.s.s. I was just corrected by Altec Lansing, use a slow-blow fuse NOT a fast-acting as I previously wrote, sorry. I found this out as now the Fast-acting just blew (thought it was working fine), so going to go back to Radio Shack to get the Slow-Blow instead. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Yes the speakers are plug and play but you will need to go into control panel on your pc and set the configuration 4.1 surround

That is the setup guide for the speakers.

The two wires plug into a cable that then that single cable plugs into the computer, this way you have sound coming out of the left and right hand speakers.

I had the same problem and found the root cause to be the RF speaker connector at the back of the subwoofer. The male and female connectors are OK. It is the 5 male pins inside the connector and the way they connect to the female holes that is the problem. Wiggle the RF speker connector as you move it in and out until you get 100% of audio voilume back. Once you get it back, do not move the connector. Have not found a permanent solution to date beyond this.

Where can I download a driver for Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers?

HI, maybe theres been a bit of confusion but your Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers shouldn't need any drivers.
Its kind of similar to you plugging in a pair of headphones into your cumputer, they should work just fine.
Are you not getting any sound? Post the details of your PC (is it a dell?)
model number etc... and describe your problem
You probably need audio drivers for your audio device(inside your pc on your motherboard),

My Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers have stopped working. I probably downloaded some other software that overrode the Dell speaker installation. How do I reinstall the Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers?

The speakers are probably fine. What you probably need to do is to reinstall the sound drivers on your dell.

You need the model of your dell pc and go to the dell website and find download and install the sound drivers for your system.

The model of your pc will be needed if any more assistance is needed.

Altec Lansing ada745 fuse

It is written on the sub. You can also take it out or look at the spare which is taped to the power cord wall plug. I believe it's T1A 250V fuse

My subwoofer smells smoky and there's a humming sound..

Well,
It best to call the manufacturer to get the speaker system replaced. As you see it smell bad , could be a burnt fuse at the back of the sub.
