I have a Viewsonic 7 tablet less than a week old that just stopped running it's OS all together.
I could not imagine why, but all that appears on the screen when I press the power button is my background picture and the so-called "task-bar"on the top indicating the time and the fact that it is in flight mode. I can hold the power button in forever and not see any change. It will not longer comply...please HELP !

Your Viewsonic (apparently) used: Android OS 2.2 and that is quite old!
(Almost always), a Android device needs to be OPERATIONAL before it can be updated. It MUST also be able to 'communicate' to receive the updated OS...
Now your VS (apparently) HAS a external SD Card slot, so you MAY be able to copy the new Android OS to that card then maybe you can load from there ~ BUT, your Tablet MUST be operational to do it!
It could, but bootup might be pretty slow, and performance might also be slow. Can't say about the drivers, it's not one I've tried. I have run Win7 on stuff as old as a Pentium III, and it does eventually come up and work.
Hi
If the tablet is less than 2 weeks old it is still under warranty and you should take it back to the vendor, as it appears to be not of "Merchantable Quality". He can then either repair, replace or refer you to the manufacturer. In the last case - at least in the UK - the sales contract is between him and you and is really nothing to do with the manufacturer, although he may try to pass the resposibility on.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers
Are you actually turning the tablet off when you are not using it? (Hold down power button until Power Off box appears on screen)? If not, your tablet is constantly using power even with the screen blanked and will drain the battery. You could have a bad battery that is no longer holding its charge. How long can you run the device off the charger continuously? That length of time might indicate the state of the battery. Check the manual for expected battery life, which for a Linx 7 is usually 4 hours or less.
You may need to do a "factory reset" on it. If you do, see this... See this site... http://www.howtogeek.com/130611/how-to-factory-reset-your-android-phone-or-tablet-when-it-wont-boot/
